Quote:The attention the defense received. I'm guessing that you don't know how a rebuild works, either. The attention they received came through the draft. The "attention" it received involved letting go of some veterans.

If you expected consistency from a defense that is playing a ton of rookies...well, you don't know much about football and you should probably talk to your wife before posting on the forum.

Looks like EricC85 already shut you up with his in detail post of the FREE AGENTS we pickedup for the DEFENSE. Maybe the attention you need to make is to look up the facts about the team before you go vomiting out of your mouth with nonsense.

By the way how many "tons" of rookies are we playing on defense again? Cyprien, Evans sometimes, thats a TON of rookies. Great observation.

The question should be "How much do YOU even know about the JAGS?"

Right, Alan Ball is definitely a franchise player...I'm sure David Caldwell picked him up with the idea of building the defense around him. They're trash free agents at positions that needed SOMEONE on the roster, and it wasn't worth 3 years /  21 million for a broken guy to keep filling that position. But I'm sure that's well above your meager brainpower. If you think Caldwell is counting on those free agents he signed on defense to be the rock foundation...well, you should probably shove your head in the sand and cry harder.

But go ahead, call me inflammatory then do it right back. The moderators here have always been hypocrites.

Did I hurt your feelings, what was inflammatory? Nothing wrong with me referring to your dribble as vomit. Every other one of the threads you have been posting on, you have been trolling hardcore. It's getting old. Relax.

I'm surprised you can even do more than slobber and hang your tongue out, having been on the boards as long as you have. Why associate yourself by moderating a forum for an organization where you disagree with every single thing the team does, TMD?

What did I disagree on again??? Just wondering.

This thread is getting sideways quickly. Let's stay on topic buddy.

Are you like 10 years old?? ( I had to ask)

FREE AGENTS DEFENSE BYAAAAAA

You're the one with the excessive question marks. You're like a tween girl who just got her first cell phone. Let's stay on topic, bro.

Are you like 9 years old???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!?!?!?????????????????????????????
Are we really griping about the defense not being better? Seriously? Caldwell has had one offseason. One.. and seven draft picks.. He blew the roster up and started over and you're complaining the defense isn't better? Of course it's not! Our starting DTs were deemed expendable by their former teams (as good as Marks has looked let's not overlook the facts here). Our starting DEs are a underachieving Gene Smith pick and a journeyman DE in his mid thirties. And as bad as that is, what's even worse is who we have behind them.. A bust of a 2nd round pick from the Gene Smith era, a UDFA, a so-so DE who's in his early thirties, and a Patriots castoff. Think that's bad? It gets worse

Linebackers... who have we got there? Poz? a good instinctive LB but he lacks speed and that makes him a liability in pass coverage. Russell Allen is very average, he wouldn't be starting on any other team in the NFL, and Geno Hayes is yet another castoff. Our DBs are our only strength and that is the only area that Caldwell really had the draft picks to address this offseason

Gratz is our starting CB, and once he comes back, I expect he will continue to improve.

Blackmon is a Seattle castoff who has played well, but he was pressed into action due to injury. He wasn't expected to be a starter.

Ball is another castoff who has been so-so when he's been healthy

McCray has played pretty well for a 7th round pick who wasn't supposed to be starting this year.

Evans has played well for, yet again, a late round pick who wasn't expected to start this year.

Cyprien continues to improve.

We have a LOT of needs, but then again, we had a lot of needs when Caldwell took over. You can't expect him to completely fix this defense in one offseason that Gene spent 4 years destroying. Overall, I'm satisfied with the way the defense has played. I would expect either DL or LB to be addressed in the draft, but not both. Once again, we don't have enough picks to address all of our needs. Patience is required.

Hush. You're clearly blinded by Caldwell and Bradley. They're miserable failures according to the Jaguars forum and their moderators. You're not allowed to be satisfied with young talent and great potential.
I'm pretty happy with this defense so far.

Just my impression I do not have stats to back this up:

More three and outs

More pressure

Fewer big plays by opponents

Better depth (at least in secondary)

I like to see 6th and 7th round picks come in and not get abused.  Although I certainly would expect them to be.

Looking at our FA/ Waiver pickups I see a bunch of average hungry players with a few nice surprises mixed in.  I don't see wasted money.

We didn't waste any money, I think we just wasted time. No one we went and got outside of the draft has to be retained because of a huge contract we did good on that end.
The end of a really disappointing era, and the start of something new.

I always liked blaine, i admit that, i backed him last year all the way into this year, buts its clear that he is a bust, and a really bad player at that. Wish him the best in the future.

Nothing wrong with giving him two years to develop but I'm pretty sure everyone at this point is ready to move on.
The secondary is better in its first year than anything Gene Smith put together.

Defensive tackles are better than last year. Geno Hayes is better than whatever WLB played for us last year. the Ball/Gratz/Blackmon are better than all corners but Cox last year. Cyp is better than Landry already. The scheme is better suited to todays NFL IMO as well.

So I think we improved in all fronts that we tried to from last year.

The priority list for this offseason will probably be : LEO, LB, CB

Interesting stat:

(after 5 games)  The Jaguars’ defense is 12th in red zone percentage – teams have scored 12 touchdowns in 23 possessions (52.2 percent).

according to peyton  "I see a team that’s stingy in the red zone". dudes ready to annihilate us lol

I have a feeling he's gonna have these rookie safeties breaking in the wrong direction frequently.  Hopefully he picks on them once  too often and gets picked off.

We'll really get an idea of where Mike Harris stands after this week.  Wes Welker will likely have a big day.  I hope Harris puts up a fight.

Quote:We had injuries last year, you really think these stats are outstanding? You think this kind of progress was worth an entire off season?
What about turnovers, and sacks. Total yards are really not that useful.
Quote:What about turnovers, and sacks. Total yards are really not that useful.

Through 5 games we have 10 sacks, 2 INT and 4 Forced fumbles

Last year for the season we had 20 sacks, 12 INT and 12 Forced fumbles.

So we're one pace for more sacks but slightly less INT and Fumbles. That said turnovers are a little harder to predict over a season could better look at this at the end of the season. Turnovers can be very erratic you can go from 2 INT to 6 INT in a few games or sit tight at 2 INT for a long stretch.
