I see a lot of people upset about this season on here but I think it's a good thing and just a shame it didn't happen 2 years ago when 2 meaningless wins meant we missed out on a franchise QB.

The team was so void of talent before this season that a 4 or 5 win season could have set the franchise back even more, it looks like we're heading for the first overall pick and grabbing the first franchise QB this team has had in over a decade which is a huge building block for the future.

I know it sucks watching the team lose every week but this time next year the Jags will be in a much stronger position in my opinion unlike the Browns/Raiders etc who are picking up pointless wins.

Just gotta hope Teddy B declares this year!

tl;dr: Season sucks but will be better for the long term prospects of the franchise than going 5-11.
Agreed, be prepared to be flamed though.

Oh I am. I really do feel for the fans who go to the games (obviously I can't) having to endure this but it will get better if we completely blow this season. The possibility of not getting the first pick would be awful.

We should have the pick of a good QB class including a guy who can make all the throws, this team has needed a season like this for a long time even if it sucks while it's happening.

He bought a $10million insurance policy, he's declaring.

wouldnt that be a reason to not declare?

if he bought insurance, that is security for him to not worry about injury if he stays in college another year
A position such as QB has to strike while the iron is hot. Teddy B is coming out.

It could be; however I think history would show when college athletes buy these huge insurance policies it's a sign they'll declare, I believe J Clowney also purchased a $10M insurance policy earlier this year. It wouldn't make sense to pay the large premium on such a policy if you're not planning to go pro, just my opinion however.

Didn't Luck stay when everybody thought he was declaring?
Luck was a different situation.  he could have come out and been the last big time paid rookie under the old system.  he chose not to, which he pretty much said all along but most of the talking figure heads thought he was all about the money.

i am not actively rooting for the jags to lose, but i would like to see the giants, bucs, and steelers to win some more games.

We don't need to suck to get a franchise QB. We thought we had one when we drafted Leftwich #7 overall, and subsequently Blaine Gabbert #10 overall. It's not necessary to have the first pick in the draft. Turns out the best QB we've had since Brunell was David Garrard who we picked up in the 4th round.

This team needs to put together some wins and gain some confidence. Losing is habit forming. Losing 16 straight games to get the #1 pick is an achievement for losers.

Of the #1 picks made since Peyton Manning was selected how many of these are considered worthy of being the worst team in NFL history to acquire: Tim Couch, David Carr, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, Alex Smith, Jamarcus Russell, Matt Stafford, Sam Bradford, Cam Newton, and Andrew Luck?

#1. Go young, cheap and inexperienced.  #2. Get high draft picks as the young players gain experience.  #3. Hit up the FA when you got a decent team.

We don't need to suck to get a franchise QB.  But right now we do suck.  Consequently because we don't have a franchise QB.  Might as well look on the bright side instead of being a Debbie Downer.

I thought that was Locker? Luck missed out on the draft class with Newton, Gabbert, Dalton. Locker chose to stay in school when the rams would have def taken him no 1. Thus missing out on that giant contract Bradford got

I'm being a Debbie Downer (whatever that means) when I say we need to pick up some wins when others say we need to lose? Oh the irony.

The guys on the field right now who will be on our team next year are building a culture. A culture of losing. Getting the #1 pick is not inspiring their attitude one iota.

Losing is not the prob

Being one of the worst teams in NFL history is

The young guys are playing hard - they're screwing up because they're young - but they're definitely not buying into any culture of losing.

That's good to see.

Sorry dude, but 2013 is all about reps, development, and evaluation for the young guys. They are playing hard and getting experience, if that leads to a couple wins down the road that's fine but get out of here with this inspiration and culture garbage. New 'culture' will come with a new QB next year, that's it.

Losing alot of games did not seem to build a losing culture for the 1988-1989 Cowboys or 1997-1998 Colts.
Why not Tebow?   :teehee:

Wow, this is totally ignorant. You want to cherry pick 2 instances in the last 24 years where the top pick was used on Peyton Manning and Troy Aikman. Why did you ignore the:

'89 Colts who took Jeff George

'99 Browns who took Tim Couch

'01 Houston who took David Carr

'03 Cincy who took Carson Palmer

'04 49'ers who took Alex Smith

'06 Raiders who took Jamarcus Russell

'08 Lions who took Matt Stafford

'10 Panthers who took Cam Newton

Why did you ignore those? Where did those #1 picks take their losing attitude teams? Do you see any Super Bowls there? If you're betting your house on the #1 pick I'd say your odds are not that great to find the savior and in doing so requires a losing mentality in your locker room you are reaping exactly what you sow. Losers.
