I've seen a couple people mention Wisconsin RB James White. I have to pass on James White. I don't think he will be much in the NFL. When John Clay left, it was suppose to become the James White show, but he quickly became the 2nd option behind Montee Ball. When Montee Ball left, it could have been the James White show, but he once again finds himself the 2nd best RB on the Badger's depth chart.

Wisconsin is Running Back U. No college in the nation has had running backs put up the numbers Wisconsin running backs have been putting up for the past 20 years. None. None of those running backs have gone one to be above average NFL backs, though.

That being said, I think Melvin Gordon breaks the trend. Whether he goes this year or next year, I think he becomes a top 20 NFL back.

Wisconson? RB U? I can think of 8 or 9 better than them all time.

1. USC - This is an easy one.

OJ, Charles White, Marcus Allen, Reggie Bush

2. Texas

Ricky Williams, Earl Campbell, Cedric Benson, Jamaal Charles, Leaks

3. Georgia

Herschel Walker, Garrison Hearst, Knowshon Moreno, Terrell Davis, Lars Tate, Rodney Hampton, currently Gurley

4.  Auburn

Bo, Canell Williams, Cribbs, Brent Fullwood, James Brooks

5. Miami

Edgerrin James, Ottis Anderson, Willis McGahee, Clinton Portis, Stephen McGuire

6. Ohio St

7. Penn St

8. Oklahoma

9. Nebraska

10. Wisconson

I could even make a case for Florida at 10

I'm not talking colleges the pump out NFL stars. I am talking about running backs that had elite college careers. Wisconsin is at the top of the list for running backs college careers over the past 20 years.

Did you even read my post? My point was that

1) They put up elite college #s

2) They fizzle in the NFL

And I also said the past 20 years, so naming guys like Herschel Walker, Earl Campbell, O.J. Simpson, Bo Jackson, etc. is irrelevant.

My rankings were based solely on college production.
Now follow the rest of my criteria. Of the past 20 years. You can't leave Wisconsin out of the #1 spot.

At the very least I'd put Miami, Texas and Georgia ahead of them.

Also, to claim something such as "Running Back U", it is something that has to be done consistently over time. Not a 10-20 year period. Wisconson has been pretty good at RB but nothing close to RB U.

Why are you trying to make this a contest? I made the thread to talk about the fact that Wisconsin running backs often get over drafted.

And no, Miami, Texas, and Georgia have not had better running back numbers in the past 20 years.

I watch a lot of big Badger games and Melvin Gordon is the real deal, he's in the same mold as a Jamaal Charles/Chris Johnson. He's firmly positioned (imo) in the 2nd round but can easily go in the 1st.

You might want to go back and look at who Miami had.

I'm not, simply stating my opinion. Agree to disagree, it's ok.

You're second sentence continues the "contest" by the way.....

Miami sits at 5/6 all time imo, but based on last 20 years they are at the very least 2, probably 1. Miami has been loaded at the RB position. At one time they had Gore, McGahee, and Portis on the same roster. Ridiculous.

They had Najeh Davenport too.

In the past 20 years, Wisconsin has had a 1,000 in 18 season. In the past 20 years, Georgia has had 4 seasons with a 1,000 yard rusher.

Let's compare the best single seasons:

Ron Dayne (1996) 2,109 yards rushing 21 TDs vs Knowshon Moreno (2008) 1,400 yards rushing 16 TDs

Montee Ball (2011) 1,923 yards rushing 33 TDs vs Todd Gurley (2012) 1,385 yards rushing 17 TDs

Ron Dayne (1999) 2,034 yards rushing 20 TDs vs Knowshon Moreno (2007) 1,334 yards rushing 13 TDs

Montee Ball (2012) 1,830 yards rushing 22 TDs vs Musa Smith (2002) 1,324 yards rushing 8 TDs

Since 1993, Georgia's highest single season rushing leader is Moreno (2008) with 1,400. Wisconsin has had 14 single season rushers over 1,400.

Montee Ball (2012) 1,830

Montee Ball (2011) 1,923

John Clay (2009) 1,517

P.J. Hill (2006) 1,569

Brian Calhoun (2005) 1,636

Anthony Davis (2002) 1,555

Anthony Davis (2001) 1,466

Michael Bennett (2000) 1,598

Ron Dayne (1999) 2,034

Ron Dayne (1998) 1,525

Ron Dayne (1997) 1,457

Ron Dayne (1996) 2,109

Terrell Fletcher (1994) 1,476

Brent Moss (1993) 1,637

Just to fill in the gaps.... Here is a list of Wisconsin's leading rusher each season for the past 20 years. These numbers blow Georgia out of the water. Miami's are closer, but still not close.

Montee Ball (2012) 1,830

Montee Ball (2011) 1,923

James White (2010) 1,052      also this year.. John Clay had 1,012 and Montee Ball had 996. That is insane.

John Clay (2009) 1,517

John Clay (2008) 1,116

P.J, Hill (2007) 1,212

P.J. Hill (2006) 1,569

Anthony Davis (2004) 973

Dwayne Smith (2003) 857

Anthony Davis (2002) 1,555

Anthony Davis (2001) 1,466

Michael Bennett (2000) 1,598

Ron Dayne (1999) 2,034

I am well aware of who Miami had and I am well aware at how many really good NFL running backs they have pumped out. You might want to go back and look at my thesis.

"No college in the nation has had running backs put up the numbers Wisconsin running backs have been putting up for the past 20 years. None. None of those running backs have gone one to be above average NFL backs, though."
Brent Moss was a beast. He just couldn't keep his nose clean.

I'm not a fan of the (insert position here) U titles. Because usually those schools players at whatever position it is don't pan out in the pros.

How could I forget ol Dookie?
