They didn't bother to convict him of murder? Oh yeah, there's no evidence of that and he confessed anyway.
What I find most troubling is he spent time with these people who were providing him acceptance and comfort before he killed them. It amplifies the malevolence. The dismayed terror and betrayal those poor people felt is unbearable to think about.

Lethal injection, although there are some states which give the prisoner a choice of injection, gas, hanging, electrocution, or firing squad.

In South Carolina, there is still the option for the electric chair. However, this was a federal case, so he will be executed in Terre Houte, Indiana, by lethal injection.
If SC tries him and gets a death sentence, he could choose the electric chair.
