The quote was referring to the Seahawks game. At the time I replied they still hadn't posted an analysis of the Indy game.

(14:19) 24-M.Lynch up the middle to SEA 24 for 2 yards (99-S.Marks; 37-J.Cyprien).
Cyprien whiffs a lot on tackles that's nothing new. Something he definitely needs to improve on because those plays usually the ones that goes for big gains. I'm not all that impressed with him at this point but it's only four games deep and he should improve. If we get two playmakers from the draft outta this new secondary I want Clowney. I'm into dominate defenses and really don't care for quarterbacks and offense. Give me a top 3 defense in all categories and a game manager at qb and I'm good.
You can't expect Cyp to be top 5 safety in the league a few weeks into his rookie season. Yea he makes mistakes and does miss tackles but he's a ROOKIE. Not to mention he went from playing at a mid-major college to facing pro competition every week. He's shown alot of potential and seems to be catching up to the speed of the game more and more every week. Our defense is bad but it has it doesn't mean we can't notice bright spots and he's definitely one of them

I was going to say i thought he was in on a couple Lynch tackles. I will say he got ran over bad once by Lynch. He badly missed a tackle on Brown in the colts game as well.
Overall though i think he will be very good. They need to bring him on some blitzes like the one against Indy. He came untouched straight up the middle and had luck not seen him then luck doesnt finish the game.
Not to rain on the parade, and I know analytics aren't everything, but both Evans and Cyprien graded out poorly according to the PFF game report. Cyprien is now the worst ranked safety, while Evans, after two games, has the 4th worst ranking.
Anyways, I'm optimistic about their futures, but to say they were "beasting" it, and that 27 year-old Dwight Lowery is now expendable, is a stretch.

He was discussing it on twitter a few weeks back, you can search for it yourself.
Quote:Considering the situation he's in with the pass rush, he makes plays. Something we haven't seen in the secondary since 2007.
If two FFs and a sack through 4 games is "meh" then I am infatuated with "meh" players and pray we load up on them
Cyprien makes rookie mistakes and isn't extraordinary in coverage but you'd have to have ridiculously high standards for rookies if you're going to pass off that type of production as "meh"
I can't fathom how someone that claims to watch Jaguars football can be bah humbug about Cyprien so far. I really can't.
Especially TMD.
For years, he lamented the team did not practice stripping the ball (even though they did).
We get a guy who might have something of a knack for forcing fumbles, and he doesn't like him.

The idea is to also be good at everything else the position requires, too.... :whistling:
...and lets wait and see what his FF totals are at seasons end before we go putting the cart before the horse
I wouldn't be shocked to see his FF totals at seasons end the same as the sit right now.
I watched the game, Evans was all over the place and looked pretty darn good out there.
For a defense that is on the field way too much, it doesnt shock me the analytics arent good. Again, analytics may not tell the whole story.

Yeah that is the idea.
He's been up and down like most rookies. Not a model of consistency.
But to suggest he hasn't shown ANYTHING would be disingenuous. He's easily been the hardest hitter the defense has seen since DD. He's got decent speed and is hustling.
Has he missed run fills? Probably.
Has he missed cover assignments? Probably.
But that's to be expected for a young safety on a team learning a new defense.
I'm neutral with regards to my opinion on Cyprien.
He's had his fair share of good plays and not-so-good plays, as expected by a rookie playing in his role. It takes some time to digest what's happening on the field as a safety, like positioning or breaking down the play. And I don't fault him for this, as there very few natural ball-hawks out there. But, I would like to see him continue to get better and develop as this season progresses - and next year is when I will critically evaluate his play.

A fair, sensible take, though the one difference I may have is tying his expectations to that of a ball hawk,
I would compare him to an in the box safety more so than a ball hawk.
