Let's look at what the Saints gave up for Ricky Williams. The Saints overpaid more than I think any team would ever overpay again. But how much would it

Washington Received
  • Pick #12 (Rd. 1) in the 1999 NFL Draft
  • Pick #71 (Rd. 3) in the 1999 NFL Draft
  • Pick #106 (Rd. 4) in the 1999 NFL Draft
  • Pick #144 (Rd. 5) in the 1999 NFL Draft
  • Pick #179 (Rd. 6) in the 1999 NFL Draft
  • Pick #218 (Rd. 7) in the 1999 NFL Draft
  • Pick #2 (Rd. 1) in the 2000 NFL Draft
  • Pick #64 (Rd. 3) in the 2000 NFL Draft
New Orleans Received
  • Pick #5 (Rd.1) in the 1999 NFL Draft

Like I said, that would be expecting way too much. But, would you be willing to pass up Bridgewater (or Clowney) for a trade like this:

Jacksonville Receives:

Pick #12 (Rd. 1) in the 2014 NFL Draft

Pick #71 (Rd. 3) in the 2014 NFL Draft

Pick #106 (Rd. 4) In the 2014 NFL Draft

Pick #2 (Rd. 1) In the 2015 NFL Draft

Pick #64 (Rd. 3) In the 2015 NFL Draft

Hypothetical Team Receives:

Pick #1 (Rd. 1) In the 2014 NFL Draft

The Jaguars would still be able to grab a good QB prospect at 2014 #12, 2014 #33, or 2015 #2. It was also allow the Jaguars to fill a lot of the other holes on this team.

If not, what would it take to get you guys off the #1 pick?

Depends on how far we're trading down in the first round, and if it's an AFC or NFC team we're trading with.

Though I wouldn't trade for any picks from 13 years ago  :whistling:

Yeah, I'd do that. Even if there wasn't a guy waiting on you in 2015, that extra First and Third would be enough coin to be able to move up. The only thing is that you are losing out on Clowney, and that's going to be a tough pill to swallow if he goes on to fulfill all of those predictions.

the only way i trade the #1 overall is if i get the #2 overall as part of the package.

Depends how the season plays out. Teddy continues to play like he has been and looks good in his bowl game. No, I'm not trading the pick no matter what the offer is.

He's gets worse as the season goes on then I may do it.
Bridgewater > all of the other picks in the world > Clowney.

If you have a QB sitting there worthy of the first pick, you take him. This won't even be a question.

Considering Bridgewater is definitely a better prospect than RG3 and my team needs a QB, you're going to have to break records to pry that pick away from me, and teams know that, so the Jags will see zero trade offers come April.

This.
What a FAIL of a trade by the Saints.

You wouldn't even make the trade if a team was willing to give up what the Saints gave up? You crazy?

I wouldn't, if I knew the guy I was getting could be an elite quarterback -- and my team lacked one.

It's not that much of a stretch for a team to turn down the farm for a franchise signal caller.

Nope. I realize how important a franchise qb is though.
Unless the Rams strike gold with their two first round picks this year and RG3 never returns to form, they are going to be kicking themselves for a long time for giving up RG3 for what they did.

I don't think the Saint's deal was all that great in the first place.  I'd much rather get the Rams deal -- 1st in 12, 1st in 13, 1st in 14, 2nd in 12.  But even then -- if you lack a franchise QB, and one is sitting there you take him rather than make the trade -- unless you're trading down just a spot, and the team trading up wants Clowney.

If the team below you wants Clowney, I'd take a 2nd to swap places.

You could draft a QB at pick #12, pick #33, AND pick #2 in 2015. The odds are that ONE of them would become this mythical "franchise QB". Then you would still have:

3rd in 2014

3rd in 2015

4th in 2014

5th in 2014

6th in 2014

to fill in other holes.

You guys are nuts.
I just don't see a team trading up from 2 or 3 to take Clowney at 1. There are some really good pass rushers in this next draft.

People are really sleeping on guys like Za'Darius Smith.

It has nothing to do with the position you are taking them. It has to do with the fact that Bridgewater is far more polished as a QB than 99% of the QBs drafted in probably the last decade. Teddy spent a lot of the offseason working on his footwork which was already damn good. You can tell it and his rollouts have improved this season.

Why do you keep saying #2 2015.  If you're trading down with #12 in 2014, that team is probably going to be drafting a bit lower than #2 in 2015.
