Quote:all you guys complaining about his salary.... smh

we have plenty of cap room to honor his contract

he is the 7th highest paid ILB... im fine with that. we have to overpay to get anybody to play here. how has poz underperformed? the guy is a leader and plays physical every snap.

what do you people think we are going to do when we cut him? are we going to break the bank and sign a huge FA to replace him? i doubt it

If you were paying attention to this last off season you'd know there weren't many large contracts handed out to veteran players, teams are realizing there are much affordable options in the draft, Dwight Freeney played the "collusion” card, I call it being smart.

then go get an affordable option and keep Poz too....
Quote:wrong, there is doubt that they can find a better option

I dont run the organization, and neither do you. so stop crying like a little baby about the guy gettin paid. i dont think everybody deserves the money he makes, but we have plenty of room for a player like him. you thinking that we are close to bankruptcy over 7 mil is just stupid.

he is a good player. how has he underperformed? he has played up to the level of his contract. Name a guy who plays harder on our team.... and you want to complain about his contract?

Marcedes? yes cut him or whatever. Poz? No! i have his back because he gives everything on the field.

I don't care how much he gives on the field, he's an average player being paid like a great player, what don't you understand about that? He has not played up to the level of his contract, his contract rivals some of the best/gifted linebackers in the league, if you believe he's on the same level as a Daryl Washington/Sean Lee/Navarro Bowman then you are truly and idiot.

Poz will be back.  Gus has stated that he wants to build this defense around him.  So far him and Cyp are the only players that shine on this defense, taking him away will be a huge step backwards considering that we have no depth at LB.

that is your opinion. not fact. he is better than average.

he plays hard an leaves his blood, sweat, tears on the field... AND plays GOOD. and you want to cut him. makes sense.

he is the 7th highest paid. cry me a river.

you talk about more affordable options... that would presume thy we can't afford Poz. WE CAN!
Quote:Tackles are one of the more overrated stats in football, Pat Angerer of the Indianapolis Colts is also a "tackle machine", those tackles usually occur 5-7 yards downfield. The Jaguars (besides Jonathan Cyrpien) have no playmakers on the defensive side of the ball, Poz is a vastly overpaid for what he brings to this team, as a matter fact, his contract compares to Daryl Washington, Patrick Willis, Navarro Bowman etc..

People keep saying tackles are overrated, but missed tackles are something coaches hate, I rather have a solid tackler then some guy who cant tackle.

Poz is fine let him play out his contact until we have somebody better no need to dump him.
Not sure why everyone hates on Posluszny.

these kids get nervous if we don't stay 30 mil under the cap at all times

Or maybe because he deserves to get paid under 4M per year and he gets paid double that?

He does nothing special what so ever.

Please tell us all the better MLBs out there that can be had at a cheaper price.

You obviously must be some sort of expert on the market value of NFL players.

Do you think Paul Posluszny is worth $22M over the next 3 years? He is certainly not; if he were to hit FA today what team would pay him that kind of money? The Jaguars can find a much cheaper/effective option in the draft, Daryl Washington was a 2nd round pick, Bobby Wagner was a 2nd round pick, Donald Butler was a 3rd round pick, DeMario Davis was a 3rd round pick, the list goes on and on. There are only a handful of ILB's that are worth that kind of money, and if you're name isn’t Luke Kuechly, Patrick Willis, Sean Lee etc there's no reason to pay top tier linebacker money to a middle tier linebacker, it's not that difficult to comprehend.
He's on the field so much.  The length of time that this offense stays on the field (laughably short) makes our defense get a lot of opportunities for tackles.

Why would they tarnish the article by reminding everyone that he's from Penn State.

I compare him to James Farrior - consisent.  The missing ingredient is playmakers around him.

It's also not difficult to understand that we can HONOR his contract AND bring in other LBs through the draft or FA.  Perhaps he will renegotiate, but I'm not about to throw a fit about him making too much when he has performed at a high level.  PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW HE HAS NOT PERFORMED AT A HIGH LEVEL.

You know, when guys holdout, everybody wants them to honor their contract.  Ok, why not the team honor their agreement and let the guy play?  He has earned it.  I know you don't care about what happens on the field, but if you watch the games he makes quite an impact.

Nothing special?  He is probably the smartest player on the field, plays physical, is a team leader, hits hard... if that's nothing special then ok.
If we keep Poz he will make 2.5 mil more than Patrick Willis next year, 2.5 mil more than Navorro Bowman next year, and make more than both of them in 2015 lol.

POZ for PRES!

He is a beast, bloody nose and all he wont let you take him out of the game.  He is having a ProBowl year if he keeps it up, despite our bad defense and horrible offense.

why should i care? we won't be hurting for that extra cap during his contract. why care? cutting him won't help us, and there is nothing we would do after cuttin him tht we can't already do...

I agree. There's simply no logic in cutting our MLB when we're already two linebackers short of a starting lineup.

Then, we'd be going into next season looking for 3 instead of just 2.

Just what this team needs, more holes.  Makes zero sense.
You should care because you could cut him next year, eat his remaining signing bonus, sign another middle linebacker of A.J. Hawk or Brian Cushing level for half the price of Poz, and then sign another player of the Sean Smith level for 5 million per year the following year.  I would rather have Brian Cushing and Sean Smith for the same price as Paul Posluszny.  According to spotrac, Poz is currently the 3rd highest paid inside linebacker and he's been average at best so far this season.
