There will always be people who will complain when a new Head Coach is put in place.
I was quite happy with this guy. Knew a lot of the team and is showing that he's no pushover. If the last couple of games of last season are anything to go by then bring it on. I don't think anyone can actually judge him until a few games of 2017 have been played.
Cannot wait. I'm actually more hyped about this season than last.
Im all in.. What i didnt like is letting us go all "Gus" in the 2nd half of the pats game... Granted i believe refs wouldve called alot of PI on any throw deep if we stayed in man coverage... So after years of suck while knowing we had talent, its hard to say that isnt marrone who turned it around.
I wonder how the views of Marrone have changed now that we went from 3-13 to the AFC Championship in one season under him.
Would he still rank 26th in coaching overall?
Are people still meh about him?
He had an inside look at the team when he was an assistant, and was able to figure out the missing pieces to get the most out of the raw talent
I too was not happy about the Marrone hiring, but I can admit that I was wrong. It isn't the first time I've been wrong and it won't be the last. He knew what to do, to get the most out of our offense. It wasn't pretty at times, but it was effective. He did a great job last year and I won't say anything negative about him this season. He deserves to be the coach. In fact, given what we have, I don't have any problems with any of our coaches. If we have another big year, I'd even consider locking them in long term.
Obviously he knew he wanted to be a HC again and once he got in and got a good look at Coach Sprinkles he had to believe that his second chance would happen right here. Either at that point (or on Day 1), he likely began to keep notes on everyone associated with the teams from players to training staff to Homebiscuit.
According to Wiki, Coach Sprinkles was fired on December 18, 2016 and both Coach Marrone and a guy named Tom Coughlin were hired on January 9, 2017. Marrone, if course, finished that 2016 season as interim HC. He likely was more prepared than anyone to assume control and perhaps felt the hand of DC, and subsequently TC, guiding him as well.

Maheo-something or other.
There was a lot of angst from fans around here over the Marrone hiring and the fact that many of Gus's staff were being retained as well. But a staff tends to take on the characteristics of it's head coach (as does the team), and Marrone had been mostly successful in Buffalo. (And don't forget, there was even more angst about the fact that he'd exercised the out option on his contract up there.) The Jag's success last year speaks for itself and I expect more of the same in '18.

You know, I was really surprised when Jim Schwartz turned down the DC position the year before that. I really thought it would be wise move to coordinate for a team that should've had a Head Coach vacancy around Thanksgiving.

I vaguely remember that (Schwartz) but you're certainly correct. Maybe Coach Marrone sat down and looked at all 31 teams and decided which teams would have a HC vacancy as you suggest and also considered that Jacksonville would bring TC back at some point, making his position even stronger.
I was unhappy with the Marrone signing, I was wrong too. However 2018 will tell us everything about our Head Coach situation. Can he lead us back to the playoffs again?
He certainly has the defense to get the job done.

I don't know that you are too far off from a certain perspective.
While Marrone was on the coaching staff under Gus and he had developed some "street cred" with the OL, chances are he'd have to win over the rest of the team.
I suspect on some level, there may have been some players who may have questioned his ability to turn this team around, just like there were some fans. Having TC in his corner gave Marrone the firm front office backing needed for him to be able to implement his philosophy.
But now that the team as a whole has thrived under his leadership, I don't think there is a credibility gap there anymore, if there ever was one in the first place.
While I certainly welcome TCs presence in this organization, if Marrone leads this team to another winning season this year, I think Marrone could thrive without TC afterwards.
