Remember when Brees did this? As Brunell said last night, throwing 5 INTs in practice isn't a big deal. How he responds Monday will be.

But I mean, thats Drew Brees. He has earned plenty of leeway with his Hall of Fame career and all.

Bortles hasn't earned any leeway. He's been throwing stupid picks for 3 years and it looks like year 4 is gonna be more of the same.

I couldn't have said it any better.

Yeah.. this...

If Tom Brady throws a ton of picks in practice it's an off day.
When Bortles does it, he's just feeding the fire that is already on him.

I'm still pulling for ol BB5... I won't be calling for Henne to start any time soon either way...

But lord help Bortles if Allen has a little more than a spark in preseason.

Quote:It was just one practice. BUT, we've seen three years of this.

The management of this team is so damn stubborn and has really weird evaluations.

They make zero moves at QB.

They trade for a just-about-washed-up-LT and draft a second LT in second round.  And that's it. Cann has underperformed at guard. Linder is good but not great. We don't have a second guard.  Parnell is average.

This offseason screamed for better o lineman and some sort of competition at QB.

Hold on.

1)  When have we ever seen Bortles throw FIVE (5) picks in one practice or game?

2)  Which QBs were available to be had? If you are going to talk NFL free agents/vets, who would have definitively turned this team around?  Cutler?  Kaep?  Romo? Osweiler?  What rookies would have made a difference this year?

3)  What in their prime stud LTs were available to be had?  Would you rather the team have spent the #4 overall pick on a LT in this year's draft?  Would you rather the team to have traded up into the bottom of the 1st round to take one of the other Ts (who may or may not have been viable LTs?)  Yes this offseason screamed for OL, but this was widely regarded as a very weak OL class.

I was there.  I know there were things in last night's practice that were disturbing for those of us who support the Jaguars.

But it is just one practice.

Using logic and reason?  That's not allowed!   Wink

It's just one practice and the first in pads.  They were working on 3rd down stuff.  I'm not going to worry about it.

Oh...yes Cann and Shatley looked bad during 1 x 1 pass protection drills.  I would hope that is why we signed Calais Campbell.  To make opposing linemen look bad.
The question is, is Tom gonna sit,and let Bortles ruin the season?

I've got faith in Coughlin's abilities to see talent.  I'm sure he'll do what he can or sees to be best for the team. But, what QB is out there? Since you assume Blake will have another bad year off of the first padded practice.
It is what it is. Hopefully the run game and defense can help us have a respectable season.
Those bringing up other players fail to realize that they are not Bortles. Sure just one practice but after 3 years that one practice is enough to see that he isn't a starter in this league. I don't think anything is going to change that much to make one think..Wow this guy is awesome. He is what he is IMO.
Trade for Brett Hundley
The jags know the Pats are secretly filming our practices in anticipation of the 1st preseason game so i wouldn't put it past Coughlin and Company to throw a few pics so the Pats come in overconfident. Eli used that strategy prior to both super bowls in which the Giants beat the Pats.
Expectations crashing quickly. 6-10 at best season imminent. #BecauseJaguars is back!

That's right!   We have Coughlin.  The Patriot killer!  He's not wanting to just win lunch but the first preseason game too.  Banana

I think these are the salient points.  There wasn't any immediate help to be had.  Not unless you pull of some kind of highly unlikely trade, like AJ McCarron for example.  And given the sample size he may not be an upgrade.  And what FA is out that right now that is a sure fire upgrade?  No one.  Personally, I don't want Kaepernick within 3 states of JAX.  RG3 is still on the market.  I'd love to see them give him a look.  But I don't think he comes in and wins the starting job.  He's not exactly Mr. Accuracy.  So we're rolling with BB5.  And we're praying he can pull it together.
I'm still sticking with my thread on the previous board that Blake will not be the starter this season. Tom won't allow it
Guys, could it just be that we have a bombdiggity defense? Bwahahahahahahaha
