The management of this team is so damn stubborn and has really weird evaluations.
They make zero moves at QB.
They trade for a just-about-washed-up-LT and draft a second LT in second round. And that's it. Cann has underperformed at guard. Linder is good but not great. We don't have a second guard. Parnell is average.
This offseason screamed for better o lineman and some sort of competition at QB.
Hold on.
1) When have we ever seen Bortles throw FIVE (5) picks in one practice or game?
2) Which QBs were available to be had? If you are going to talk NFL free agents/vets, who would have definitively turned this team around? Cutler? Kaep? Romo? Osweiler? What rookies would have made a difference this year?
3) What in their prime stud LTs were available to be had? Would you rather the team have spent the #4 overall pick on a LT in this year's draft? Would you rather the team to have traded up into the bottom of the 1st round to take one of the other Ts (who may or may not have been viable LTs?) Yes this offseason screamed for OL, but this was widely regarded as a very weak OL class.
I was there. I know there were things in last night's practice that were disturbing for those of us who support the Jaguars.
But it is just one practice.
Bortles has been an inaccurate, turnover prone loser for 3 years. Vegas has him as the odds on favorite to throw the most pics this year and that was before this performance. And you are disagreeing with me because he's never thrown 5 before in a practice. Splitting hairs too finely.
What QB would turn this team around? Who can ever answer that question definitively? There was no A grade options but there were plenty of guys you could have drafted. Are you saying that there is not a single playoff level QB in the 2017 draft? Cause that seems unlikely. But they could have easily got someone better than Henne to push Bortles.
O line is more than LT. We should have signed a stud guard and drafted multiple quality guys. We had multiple guys sitting there that would have been value picks and we went other directions. Like backup strong side end. Or 4th string WR. Maybe those picks work for us. But it sure seems like our team is stubborn with QB and o line.
We agree it's one practice. I don't expect to see that many pics again. Maybe I'm overreacting.
I don't think he will be our starter either. It's going on 3 years of the same ol crap.
Long time fan, long time lurker thanks to falling into a chasm on the Jungle. I was registered but not authorised to do anything and the email to the administrator said the address was dead so i welcome this foray into the brand new Duval Pride!
Now onto Blake, well let's face it, it's the last thing you want it to see at practice, it kind of feels worse that it was at the Bank in front of the fans for the first time since his off season improving. Now i assume that in a perfect world and Blake turns into the next Brady then we'd all be happy with that? Now last season was bad. Baaaaaaad. You get it if he was injured or missing players but his mistakes were so basic, fundamental football mechanics, that you worry how is it possible for him to slip so much in one year?
I have about two fingers clinging to the Blake Bus right now, mainly as i don't want us to have to wait another 2 years for a rookie QB to develop and risk losing one of the big guys. I think the biggest thing he and basically all of that O, is confidence. 2 years ago, the O was set and if could just fix the D, but the O slipped back so badly last year. Now i pin that on Bradley and Olsen. Hated Olsen's playcalling and my, silver cloud, how can i spin 5 int's into a positive is that, he's going to be learning a new offense in ways, isn't practice where you know...practice those plays?
Bortles' confidence must have been shot after last season and i get the 'oh here we go agaiin' but he's going to be starting Week 1 barring injury or, i don't know, 10 picks! We need to find those 'money' throws and plays for him and the WR. I'm not saying he's not had some moments where you genuinely wonder what he is doing or thinking but he's our QB, we need to find ways to help him (looking at you O line)
I would like to stay positive about the situation and YES this is already a situation, and I do understand it is only one practice, but I have sat in the same seats for a long time and what I have seen the last 3 years is borderline second team, clipboard holder level of play.
Trade for any of these cause Chad is horrible:
Nick Foles
AJ McCarron
Chase Daniels
Matt Moore
These guys would be an upgrade to Blake. With the run game an defense we just need a game manager that can prevent the easy turnovers and read a defense.
CHAMPIONSHIP!!
Great pick Dave. Time to just get him out of building and formally move TC into GM role.
Bring him home, Blaine Gabbert
Not a good sign, but nothing to get overly concerned about until real football starts happening. We have no idea what was being called offensively or why. Let's see how he responds.
Some people clinging onto Bortles will be saying "finally" when he's gone. Book it.
Maybe Blake is trolling.. he'll turn up in week 1 and say 'Just Kidding!'..
...never know.
One guy at work said "so much for 4net helping Bortles out"
I hope the little guy learns how to throw by the time his contract is up.
Its super early so he gets a tiny bit of "wait and see". That being said, this team is going nowhere with Bortles as the QB, hes just not good.
The good news is Coughlin won't put up with it. He'll be shown to the bench.
So one decent practice and one really really bad one. Lets see what today holds.
You have to wonder what BB would look like if he wasn't drafted to a team with Gus as the HC.
Wonder if Tom is looking at Kaep or RG3? We don't need a HOF to improve, we just need a game manager.

The INTs were either in 7 x 7s (no running game) or passes in 11 X 11, without the context of play action or down and distance.
The INT's are troubling, and Fournette can't eliminate all of Bortle's picks, but that particulr jab isn't fair based on context.
Pick Six, first series against the Patriots D next week.
Bortles looks good: "It's only practice."
Bortles throws 5 int in pracitice: "The sky is falling."
Too funny, yet oh so predictable.
Let's be fair...
No one becomes a star based on their performance in practice, so by the same token it seems unreasonable to dog someone due to one 'off' day. We don't know what the circumstances were around those turnovers either. Yes, Blake has a history of being a turnover machine so its understandable that when he has a day like this in practice that it feels too uncomfortably familiar for the fans. But lets try to keep rational about it; one bad practice isn't grounds to bench him and give up on the season before it has even started.
On the other hand...
If it should occur that Blake goes out the first couple of regular season games and stinks the place up, then it should be apparent that he isn't what we had hoped he would be and we still don't have a quarterback (as far as we know) who can lead us to the 'promised land'. If indeed that were to occur, then... yes, the 2017 season is indeed already over for us pretty much. I should also go on record as saying that if BB does continue to be a loser, then the consequences of it should fall on Dave and he should no longer be here; honestly, he isn't really needed now except to be an over paid 'go-fer' for Tom.
A horrendously bad choice for both head coach (Gus Bradley) and the 'franchise quarterback' (Blake Bortles) would get the GM fired from most teams, I suspect. But it isn't the choices in themselves that seem so damaging (though they have been to be sure); rather, it's the reluctance to move on from them when it has become too obvious that they aren't working.
Are we at that point with Bortles? Well, we did ourselves no favor by not doing more to build up our O-line this past draft. So these first couple of regular season games are going to be critical for Bortles if he's ever going to be looked at again by any team as more than just a backup quarterback... maybe. We certainly didn't get anyone who could even 'push' Bortles in the way of competition. Henne is overpaid for what he provides, but Caldwell remains the main culprit in this situation in my opinion.
But who knows? Maybe we'll blow the competition away the first couple of games and Bortles will look like a prince. It's possible... theoretically.
Everyone's going to be surprised when this team goes 3-13. Ready for another rebuild.....?

I hope not, RGKnee just takes up space on the IR and the other one is Tebow-esque in the sideshow.
