I don't understand why we keep handcuffing the kid by sitting him behind Henne. You can't really tell how good he is just by watching him in practice. He needs some game time experience, yet every preseason Henne gets 3/4 of the snaps. Change it up and start Allen in the preseason and let's see what we have. We know Henne's limitations, but we know nothing about Allen. Isn't it time to find out?

I wouldn't mind seeing Allen start a game. I keep hearing about great passes he's having in practices, and whenever I do see him throw, he's throwing beautiful passes. I know he had an INT the other day, but so far that's the only one I've heard of. I feel like the coaches know he's better than they're letting on.

Since you love the guy so much, what the heck! Let's do it. Put him in!

He'll probably start the last preseason game again, but the first three games are for starters to practice, not to waste on satisfying what fans want to see. Bortles will start the first three preseason games, which are the ones that matter.

Bottom line, Henne doesn't even take risks and he still throws a ton of INTs (vs TDs) for an NFL QB.

Henne hasn't had much talent around him during his JAX tenure.  I'm sure that each respective coaching staff has played their best QB, but the statistical comparison might be uhjustly harsh.

Very much true.  Henne played behind a much worse O-line than we have now with much worse RB help as well as a less talented receiver group.  Add to that the team had a much less talented defense.

I just don't get the hate for the starting QB or the backup from some of these fans.
Jags need a better decision maker at QB. I haven't seen anyone look good at QB yet. Clean house!!!
Clean house? Riiiiight, like there's a bunch of top grade QB's sitting on their couches playing Madden, just waiting for us to call...

There's a lot of things that need to fall into place before we can "clean house".

What will our record be at the end of the season? We need to be a top 10-15 pick to be in range of drafting a franchise QB. Realistically, most franchise QB's come early in the first round. The Tom Brady's of the world come around about as often as Haley's Comet.

How much are we willing to spend in order to move up into position to draft "our guy?" It's gonna be expensive to possibly move up and we have to be willing to give up a ton of draft picks.

Who will be entering the 2018 draft? Right now, the class has the potential to be loaded, but a lot happens in a year. Some top QB's may return to school, some may suffer major injuries, some may get into trouble with the law and others may just have bad years, statistically.

Finally, we can look at free agency. Kirk Cousins will be the big prize, but is he worth $100+ million? That would handcuff this franchise for a long time. Is it worth it?

These are all major questions that need answering before we "clean house" at QB. I don't wanna just throw anyone in there. I want us to do our research and find the player who is right for this team. We should get a better sense of that by mid season.

The Jags don't need a top grade QB... They just need to replace their terrible QB with a mediocre QB.
Was he mediocre in 2015 when he broke a number of team records? With the exception of one bad day, everyone is saying that he's playing much better than last season. Why don't you at least wait a couple of games and see what he can do before you start building that gallows.
Bortles has never been better then terrible. I've watched him play enough games to know he's not the guy... maybe you just don't want to throw away your overpriced Bortles jersey... Stop making excuses for a guy that doesn't get the job done.

No, he wasn't mediocre in 2015, he was bad. Ascending was the feeling and he was still bad. It would not be good enough to "get back" to 2015, he needs to ascend a few levels beyond that.

What's terrifying for me as a fan, is knowing that about a quarter way into the season, we are going to be looking at this QB situation, begging for help and we are just going to have to live with it for 16 weeks and then until the 2018 Draft. This season could quickly turn unwatchable if he continues at this rate. All of the practices and today's NE practice sounds like more of the same from him and there is no option.

I'm not going to get excited every time Bortles can complete a pass in a 7 on 7 against Harper and Dixon
