But he is a punk. No one wants a punk on their team.
Mettenberger?

Quote:This is the most questionable thing that the new regime hasn't done yet. What happens if Bortles doesn't improve or gets hurt? Are we all in on Henne? Or Allen who hasn't seen any game action?

Quote:If Bortles stinks we'll likely have a high pick which we use on a QB. If he does well then we have our QB.

Exactly. We have fortified, to some extent, every other need. If Bortles does well this year, then we are moving in the right direction. If he stinks it up, then we can focus next year on the remaining need (generally speaking) of getting a new QB. That is the backup plan.
Yes... Henne is the backup plan.  Is that an ideal situation?  No.  That's what it's like when your starting QB goes down.

You know what the Steeler's backup plan is when Ben gets hurt?  Landry Jones.  Trust me... you don't want Landry Jones taking snaps.

Who's backing up Luck again?  Tolzien?  Morris?

Dallas has Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers.

I guess we need someone like Giants Backup QB Future Hall of Famer Geno Smith.

Seriously?!  If your starting QB goes down, the best thing MOST teams can hope for is to simply get by.

He's not sure fire, and he sure as heck wasn't worth what NE wanted for him in trade.

Re-signing Henne was one of the first moves made by the front office.

February 2017.

Some have either forgotten, or simply don't want to believe it's true.

Creating your own reality is becoming more and more a thing.

Some around here seem to think that it's commonplace to have a Franchise QB as the backup.  I don't think they bother to look at the rest of the NFL Teams backup QB situations.  Dallas got lucky with Dak.  The Patriots system has shown time and time again a backup can thrive in it (and later get paid, only to do nothing elsewhere).  The vast majority of teams in the NFL have serious question marks at Backup QB.  Why?  Because if that player was starting caliber, he'd be starting either there, or elsewhere.

No. No he's not. He had a couple good overachieving years under Harbaugh.

While the statement about Gabbert speaks volumes, I do give credit to his early years and helping that team to a super bowl. But again, I think that reflects more on Harbaugh; as soon as he left, it was downhill from there for Kaep

Ultimately, I think it was mostly a case of the NFL not being ready for the Pistol formation.  Once Defensive Coordinators figured it out, Kaep's career was basically over.

Vince Young had a spectacular rookie season as well.  Once they go on tape, teams see their tendencies.  If your QB's head and your QB's game is shallow, well... tough sailing the rest of the way because now the defense is dialed in to you.
There are some teams that would be happy to take Blake Bortles off our hands in exchange for their current starter straight-up.  This should tell you how hard it is to find a decent QB as a backup plan.

Quote:But would you trust Henne more than Kaep or Mett? I wouldn't personally. We know what Henne is.

I do hope Blake stays healthy and succeeds. I've spent like 300 dollars on 3 different jerseys for the guy. The non homer side of me says we need something/anything better than Henne on the sideline for insurance.

That something better isn't today's Kap.  2013 Kap.  Not 2016/2017 Kap.

He also had the worst half of football last year. Something like 1 of 5 for 4 yards and 5 sacks.

He was better then Henne at one point but not anymore.

Henne is the man.  Just read the article about Jalen favoring Henne

Henne has never had a better year then Kap, Kap has had 3 solid seasons, where Henne has had 0

Yall dont realize Kap had a 90 passer rating last year 16 tds and only 4 ints and rushed for over 400 yards a 2 Tds in 12 games, thats much better then Henne every did, Henne has never thrown more TDs then ints in a season where he got playing time, dude is awful.

Kaepernick is not very good and a huge PR problem. Why would anyone want to take that on? You can see how many teams have interest so far.
