Unfortunately for Arob this injury pretty much guarantees he won't get the contract he was looking for. I'd say he'll get 2 year deal, probably with an option after the first along with lots of incentives from us. The only thing is there may be a team such as the Browns willing to take a shot on a very talented receiver and offer him a much bigger contract.

Should be remembered that next year we really don't have much cap to play around with. If Bortles gets that option we're going to have to make some really tough decisions.

Telvin and Lee would cost the bones of 18/20 million. Added to the option of 20 million , that's almost 40 million gone next year (in theory) and you still have guys like Colvin who will be looking for a contract.
I'm not sold on Keelan Cole being am impact player. He is raw and has some glaring drops.
When is he expected back?

Or they could just sign both to extensions.  I know that's a crazy suggestion, but it's not like the team is hurting for resources, and you don't want to let guys who make the team better walk.

I don't think his injury impacts the length of the deal ARob gets.  It will impact the $$ to some extent, but he's got enough of a resume to assure he'll be well compensated, especially with the team getting a good feel for the void created by his injury right now.  If no other receiver really steps up into that role while he's out, his leverage gets a little stronger regardless of the injury.

Given that he's had season ending injuries 2/4 seasons it almost certainly will. He was probably looking at a 4/5 year deal at around 12/14 million a year , now that's likely not going to happen. The likelihood is whatever deal has is more short term with an option covering the team. Possibly a 1 year deal with an option for 2 year added on to that. Maybe they do a Beachum type deal with 1 year but have an option to turn that into a full 4 year deal at good pay for Arob if he looks the part.

I honestly can't wait for him to come back. He is going to add one more deep threat for this team to use during play action.
When is he due back?

Edit: just seen.. scrap that.
Westbrook could Easily be our best offensive player outside of Arob.
If the Jags continue an upward ascent this season, the timing of his arrival would be perfect. New dimension in the O, more work for Ds, fresh legs to close out season and win the South. Blessing in disguise for him to be out recovering.

They already said they were planning to tag ARob anyway.

With Westbrook on a rookie deal, you cut someone like Greene and have your top 4 as ARob, Lee, Westbrook, Hurns. Hurns, is actually relatively cheap considering the cap, Westbrook is cheap. Lee won't break the bank, I'd extend him for a little more than Hurns makes, then you tag or prove it deal on ARob. We're fine with all 4 next year. I think 2019 is when a decision to move on from one might come.
Give Lee a little more than Hurns?  Lol. We won't be able to sign Lee to a contract like that, pay Smith, tag A Rob, and pay Bortles for his 5th year.  If Bortles plays decent the rest of the year I think we keep him for his 5th year and draft a QB in the 2nd round.  No way will Lee get a bigger contract than Hurns though, the Gene Smith days are over
Why give Lee anything? Let him walk. Between Westbrook and Greene, there is speed on the WR depth chart. Lee is injury prone. Besides , Cole is being groomed to take over the role of dropped-ball-artist who gets a pass due to potential.

Last couple of years he has seemed to kick the injury bug. I hope he stays healthy.

Why in the world would we tag ARob? He's was like a lost puppy last season and now he has a serious knee injury that most WR's take at least a year or two to come back from, full speed. I'd rather tag Telvin Smith and look to free agency to get another WR. I don't think there will be a ton of suitors for ARob in his current state.

Yep, A-Rob is getting a one year prove-it deal at this point.

Agree, Lee hasn't panned out the way we expected. Hes not bad, but hes not good either. I wouldn't miss him much if he left, but if he can be kept for a reasonable price I am good with that as well. One thing that is impacting our recievers right now is our complete avoidance of passing. None of them will look good when you basically don't throw the ball. So its kind of hard to really tell. Players need touches to get in a rhythm, and our recievers are not getting many.
Arob
Lee
Westbrook
Hurns
Cole/Benn/Greene(lol)/FA/Pick
I'm more than happy with this group
Nobody gets the axe. Receivers don't fall off trees and they're not a dime a dozen like Ketchman liked to say back in his day here as the sportswriter. We know that Lee, Robinson and Hurns are all very capable of producing. Just depends on the offensive scheme. We're not leaning on the passing game right now.

It's all about defense and ground and pound. Eventually down the stretch. Probably after mid season. Don't be surprised if Hackett starts opening up the playbook more and starts taking advantage of a loaded box with the play action fakes. It's coming. It's only a matter of time.

We saw a slight glimpse of that last Sunday in Pittsburgh when Blake was able to hit Lee with an ugly duck. If he gets more air up and under that ball and he leads Lee it's going for more than 31 yards. Hopefully they mix it up soon. I have noticed that it's becoming a trend. Run, run, pass. Run, run, pass. Run, run, pass. Need to see some passes thrown on first and second down.
Lee sucks and I hope he gets the boot.

Robinson, Westbrook, Hurns and a vet next year who can actually catch.
