The first College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings have been announced.

The first Top 4 group is Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, and TAMU.

As all the talking heads have been saying, I think Washington is in a good spot.  They win out and take the Pac12 title game, basically a lock to get in.

A&M may like their spot now but they definitely don't control their own destiny.  Obviously Washington winning out with jump them.  Ohio St winning out would jump them.  Wisconsin winning out and taking the Big10 title could jump them.  Same with Nebraska.

Louisville in a tough spot.  They need to win out and need lots of help.  Not many great games left on their schedule.  And they need Clemson to lose twice if they want a chance at conference title.

I dont have the numbers in front of me but based on what they were showing on ESPN earlier, in each of that last two years, only one team that started off in the initial top 4 eventually made the playoff.  If I were a betting man, I'd say more than one of these teams in the top 4 will make it.  Doesnt look like anything will slow Michigan down.  And Bama seems tough to beat.  Clemson is looking a little shaky to me.

I would have to agree.  I think Michigan and Bama are pretty safe and look like the top 2 teams at the moment.

I don't think Clemson or TAMU make it through the season.  My number three team would probably be Washington with that last spot I'm unsure about.

Wisconsin needs Nebraska to lose at least one more game. Even if that happens and Wisconsin wins the BTCG, I doubt a two-loss team would be selected because there can only be four teams.

Louisville is shot. It would be a miracle for them if Clemson loses twice.

Ohio State and Nebraska can't both win out. They meet Saturday night. That game might be a BTCG preview. But don't forget Michigan, who must beat OSU to win the Big Ten East.

That team was Alabama.
A&M could win out and they still wont get in.

TAMU's problem is being in the same division as Alabama. They need Alabama to lose twice to have a chance in the SEC West.
I know any given game anyone can win....

I just don't see Bama getting beat by anyone.

On their worst days they are still a step above most teams.

Whoever they meet in the playoffs can beat them.

Does the Nebraska/Ohio State winner need TAMU to lose?

No. A 1-loss Big Ten champ is a lock. Both Nebraska and Ohio St. control their own destiny.

Bama is my clear choice to win the title.

But if unranked Ole Miss can give them all they can handle then certainly there are teams that could steal one from Bama.

Ole Miss did that last year and won. That was not enough to keep Alabama out of the playoffs because the SEC winner automatically gets in.

No one said anything about Bama missing the playoffs.

How do you think it would work out if Michigan only has 1 loss, but it is to OSU who finishes as a 1 loss Big Ten Champ?

You think Michigan still gets in if OSU represents the Big10 as champ of the conference title game?

I'd say Mich and OSU make it in the playoffs IF that were to happen.

That's a big "IF", but it is very possible.

Michigan visits Ohio State on November 26. If both teams win out before then, the winner of that game goes to Indianapolis. It is impossible to put both teams in the playoffs because only one can play in the CG. The CFP committee puts a big emphasis on conference champions. If you can't even win your own conference/division, you are not one of the top four teams.

Ohio St. makes the playoffs if they win out. No question about it.

It's not impossible. 11-1 Michigan would make the playoffs over a 2 loss Pac 12 or Big 12 champion if it came down to that.
