Cowboys fans ready to admit Dak is just an average QB?

Sure he may be a step above Bortles, but this "he's a top 10 QB" nonsense that people were saying is a joke. He's led his team to 22 total points in 3 games. I understand the defense is trash, they lost Zeke, and Smith was out (he played today) but a top 10 QB takes control and command of the offense in adversity IMO.
One short rough stretch overshadows a historic ~20 game start to a career? Seems reactionary to me.

Historic? Please. He was a solid QB last year with a dominant run game and a OL.

He's been asked to be the leader of the offense in the absence of Zeke and an average OL this year and he can't do it.
Like most qbs he cant carry a team. We need to realise bortles is the norm.

He's in a sophomore slump. Let's see how he looks in year 3, possibly with a new coach.
The offense that they're running certainly isn't playing to his strengths. The hype on him was overblown, Zeke is what makes that offense dangerous.

But, I think someone who will better utilize dak's talents could have him get to a level where he would be able to have sustainable success.

On the other hand, and this could possibly use another thread, cousins is looking really good for what he's working with on Washington.
Dak's game right now totally relies on the running game. It was clear that was the case from last year and looking at his stats. His game isn't at the point it needs to be at to carry an offense. Thing is, when he has a running game to work with he is VERY good. We won't know how good he can be or will be until a couple of years.
I’m also baffled as to why the Cowboys don’t provide him any weapons. Dez is a #2 WR at best right now, possibly worse, and he’s the only notable weapon for Dak outside of the ghost of Jason Witten who still roams the field. Not making excuses for him but it’s been forever since they had multiple WRs anyone had even heard of. Where have you gone Miles Austin?

Agree and agree. Dak looked great when he had a great team around him. Now that its all on him, not so good (but still not bad). If Romo had managed to stay healthy, he probably would have had a historic year with those Cowboys. It makes me kind of sad for Romo that he wasn't able to do that and Jerry wouldn't even let him compete for his spot.

As for Bortles, he is a average QB in this league. Just not good enough to win on his own at this point. I have hope that Blake will put it all together, but at this point, I think we are basically seeing what we will get from him.

The difference being Bortles has the #1 Defense and #1 Rushing Offense and is still barely adequate.
Zak is showing he can't shoulder the load on his own. So that basically places him in the middle of the pack for me. Which therefore means he's average. Until he proves otherwise that's exactly how I'll view him. Jerry will have to keep investing pieces around him through the draft though. Bryant is overrated. Witten is more than likely done after this year. Pretty soon they won't have much left outside of Zeke.
All I know is Dak has been my fantasy QB all year and he was fantastic, until Zeke started serving his suspension. He then posted me 7 points and 0 points. I benched him this week for Phillip Rivers and thank God I did. I now have 43 points from the QB position and I'm gonna ride the "Rivers Train" from here on out. I'm fighting for a playoff spot. Dak just looks like an entirely different QB. Without Zeke as his safety net, he's holding the ball too long and making really bad throws.
There still isn't many QBs I'd take over Dak if I was starting a franchise tomorrow.

Really? I can name a ton easily.

Brady
Rodgers
Brees
Roethilsberger
Wilson
Stafford
Ryan
Newton
Wentz
Cousins
Watson
Mariota
Smith
Dalton
Flacco
Keenum
Goff

I mean, outside of Arizona's, Buffalo's, Denver and Cleveland's and Tampa Bay's situation at QB including ours as well I am not all that impressed with Dak. He's proving to be a game manager at best with Elliot in the line-up and now he's proving to be a liability without Elliot in the line up. I understand it's his second year. But he's got some serious doubts now and questions that must be answered at some point. Even if this team were a play-off caliber team this year at some point he would have to face a stout defense that takes Elliot out of the game anyway and he would be forced to win it with his abilities. Didn't Denver expose this back in week two this year?

Exactly. A true franchise QB steps up when he needs to. I know Zeke is a great player, but losing your RB shouldn't hurt you THIS bad if he's a franchise guy. Hell even Blake stepped up and won the 2 games we didn't have Fournette.
Development isn't linear people. Good QBs don't just improve incrementally every single year, especially young ones. I think it's clear that Dak has the ability to be a franchise caliber QB.
The "it's his second year" argument kinda loses its strength when you look at Goff and Wentz.
Dak is who we thought he was. A rookie who's offensive line made him look 10x better than he was. The same applies for guys like Carr.

The Cowboys aren't genius. he is playing to his draft position.

I just disagree with that assessment. What does he do so exceptionally well? He's average.

He had a historically good and efficient rookie year. He's elite out of empty. He's good in the red zone. Pretty accurate. Good anticipation. Very quick processor. Also clearly a good leader and has all the intangibles blah blah.

A down year with the line playing bad and a reciever corp that isn't very dynamic doesn't worry me too much. It's only his second hear after all.
