The Jags have yet to beat ONE team with a winning record in the Gus Bradley era. Other than the Clots, every other team on the schedule is .500 or above. There is no way the Jags are going to get to 8-8 this season. It's far more likely they don't win another game, although with the talent level and weakness in the AFC South - maybe they get unlucky and win 1 or 2, just enough to push them out of the number 2 spot in the draft.
Quote:Not all 53 players, but enough to feel confident we can win the division with good coaches. It is Greg Olson's fault the offense went backward after playing very well last season. That is why he got a pink slip. The defense obviously is playing better more because of Dave Caldwell's additions than Todd Wash's promotion because he just tweaked Bob Babich's scheme.
Just because Greg Olson got a pink slip doesn't necessarily mean that he's at primary fault for the Jaguars Offensive collective performance this season. My gut feeling is the team has greater issues than Olson. Much greater issues.
Though I mentioned earlier that Dave Caldwell probably has done a better job than the Jaguars coaches and players, that doesn't mean that Caldwell has done a good enough job.
I believe the Jaguars additions on Defense have upgraded the unit. However, sometimes even minor scheme changes can make a significant difference in performance.
Quote:Good. A challenge to the players.
Seems like these players are already challenged. Mentally.

The Bears are still looking for their second win.

The Jaguars aren't playing the Bears again this season.

It goes without saying Greg Olson was not the primary issue in Jacksonville. All coaching problems begin at the top. Someone had to go and Olson was a good candidate for that.
Like players, Dave Caldwell made rookie mistakes and got better with experience. Jacksonville is his first GM job, so I gave him a pass in 2013.

Sometimes a HC is doing an overall good job but made a mistake with a Coordinator hiring. That's probably not the case in Jacksonville.
In 2013, Dave Caldwell didn't have the opportunity to make all of the changes in the scouting staff he wanted until after the draft. That's the nature of the NFL when a new GM is in place. Despite that, it remains to be seen how much stock Shad Khan puts on the Jaguars 2013 personnel decisions. Even if Caldwell gets a free pass from the vast majority of football people in and out of the league, all that really matters from a Jaguars perspective is what Khan thinks.

That is the big story in Buffalo this season. Rex Ryan was on the hot seat before training camp and has a four-game winning streak since firing Greg Roman. If the Jaguars had a good HC simply firing Greg Olson would be more exciting.

Rex Ryan has a track record as a HC, as he took the Jets to 2 straight AFC Champion games. This largely because of their Defense and Running game. Ryan wasn't able to find the formula for a consistent passing attack and that combined with the teams overall talent dropping considerably lead to a housecleaning with the Jets after the 2014 season.
Whether the Bills are good enough to overcome a difficult schedule remains to be seen. But having a HC who has significant success in the past indeed increases their chances of at least having a winning record this season.

It is only a matter of time before we hire a proven HC - probably January 2017.

A potential HC search can go in many different ways. Sometimes going the proven winner route on the NFL level is the best course of action but not always. Mike McCarthy, Mike Tomlin, and Mike Zimmer are three examples of the latter.

The three HCs who came from Cincinnati were proven themselves as coordinators and head coaches. No way the Vikings fire their best HC in my lifetime next year, but I am sure there will be some guys worth Dave Caldwell's time.

I think Mike Zimmer is a terrific HC. However, he still has a way to go before I would put rank him over Bud Grant as the best Vikings HC in your lifetime.
There are always good HC candidates available when a season ends. Choosing one of them and providing the organizational support for him to succeed more often than not don't happen with NFL teams.

I was born in 1977, when Jimmy Carter was the U.S. President. Was Bud Grant the Vikings HC that year?
OK that's what I thought. But I knew nothing about football while wearing diapers.

I was just replying to the statement you made earlier in the discussion.
For your information, Bud Grant's final season with the Vikings was 1985. He was arguably a top 10 all time NFL HC.

Sadly (for Vikings fans) he never won a Super Bowl.I don't want to think about HC candidates until there is a place for them, but Now I am too tired to chat about the Jaguars all night.
It's like a totally normal conversation between mjf and D6 lol.
Quote:Everyone would include gus.

...and Shahid? Is he perhaps "suggesting" to Dave that Gus not be fired?
