Long time reader and I felt compelled to create an account just for this thread. This will most like be my first and last post.

But just for clarity....

Throwing beer on people "who don't have children", OK?

Throwing beer on people "who have children", not OK?

Jacksonville had a chance to shine, with a great players on the field, and a loud energetic crowd. We want to show the NFL that Seattle is not the only place that has a valuable 12th man. Instead, because of a few incidences, we come off looking like Philly fans.

I've always said that Jags fans are the best fans in the league, because despite a decade of misery, they show up and support the team. What happened yesterday is not the kind of support we need.

Nobody is shrugging this off.  I don't think anyone here condones the fan behavior. There were more than 64k at the stadium yesterday.  3 or 4 bad actors don't represent the fan base.  The Jags have enough video of the incident to at least identify some of the culprits, and they will be dealt with accordingly.

If you're only going to post once, this is a strong one to roll with.

It was most likely Bud Light, no real loss there.

That's why Jefferson was really mad.
He's a Miller Lite guy
I'm glad to hear this, FBT.

That is correct.

Case in point, Hyun Soo Kim does NOT have children so this was ok

Michelle Bennett should have the Man of the Year patch ripped off his jersey
Throwing beer?...That's not throwing beers, this is throwing beers

The main issue I have with all of this is the fact that, like the OP, the media has decided to fixate on the fan reaction while ignoring almost completely what triggered it in the first place. The local media is paying attention to the bigger picture, but almost all of the national media outlets are only focused on lambasting the fans and not reporting on a great Jag win.

The funny thing is this incident caused a league-wide policy change that had drink vendors removing bottle caps so fans couldn't hurl full bottles.
Dan Patrick actually brought up the “bush” league garbage and called out Michelle Bennett

So did McNabb this morning.  Still, if you watched ESPN last night, Van Pelt hammered the fans as if it was the entire stadium.  Peter King ripped the fans in MMQB today as well.
At least the Yuengling can that went flying was empty!

Shame the focus was the ending. I had a few Seahawks around me and they were great. A little [BLEEP] talking back and forth but in the end, we’re football fans. This one incident was not indicative of the overall atmosphere.
This was just a product of a lot of a lot of bad decision making and over-reactions...

What prob started as words became shoving, shoving became punching, punching became throwing stuff onto the field, that turned into a player NEARLY entering the fan area.

The Jags fans made a bad decision by throwing stuff onto the field, but Jefferson NEARLY made a TERRIBLE decision. THANK GOD people were there to hold him back, that could've been really really bad for everyone involved.

Could you shed some light on the events that led to it?  I'm honestly just curious what was said.
These fans are thanking Jefferson.  Look how happy they are!  The whole stadium is laughing and smiling.  No hard feelings, mkay?  Now get out.

I think Jefferson may get suspended for not immediately leaving the stadium after being ejected.  I hope Bennett is suspended for diving at our players' knees.

Looks like he was trying to make some more and sister was having none of it.

Explain to me why it is ok for Jags fans to throw beer on an NFL player with kids.

This is so messed up.

I am embarrassed.

You should be too

This is not what we're about.

It's not. It's even less ok for a 300-lb "professional" football player to climb into the stands and engage a fan in a boxing match. It was entirely wrong of fans to throw drinks at Jefferson, but as the "pro", Jefferson should be done what the Jaguars did in Cleveland: get the hell off the field. I'll tell you this much, if I tried to kick the crap out of a paying customer where I work, I'd be fired, banned from the building and blackballed.

Jefferson will have plenty of time to explain to his kids why he's not playing.
