Loved Greene in college and as a draft guy.

Hasn't been great so far but I do think he has a role in the NFL
Hurns is back at practice today according to Marrone during his presser that just wrapped up. He's been released to fully participate.

Awesome!

Let Lee rest. Westbrook and Cole on the outside with Hurns in the slot. Mickens as the 4.
Hurns coming back is a huge boost to this team! Huge!

He is cheap enough to keep as a 4th or 5th or even a 6th.

Lol, Greene is not a capable receiver and doesn't have nice hands.  He has 125 career receiving yards an 5 career fumbles.  He is more of a liability than anything, he will be gone season end

OLD THREAD BUMP:

Greene (who is not gone BTW) has been getting praise left and right throughout OTAs.

Quote:“He has had a great offseason,” McCardell said. “I am knocking on wood that he stays healthy because I feel like [he’s] a guy like that who has a lot of experience that is able to make plays and has made plays in this league before [and] can help us out.”
Mike Kaye and Hacker were on the radio today saying he's made a big play/great catch in nearly every session they've attended of OTAs.

Lee, Cole, Westbrook, Moncrief and Chark are going to be on this roster. That's 5 WRs right there and highly likely the lineup (not in any specific order). Maybe they decide to keep 6, but then you're faced with the question of do you continue to keep the smaller guys in Greene, Mickens, Wynn, or do they go with the big guy in Lazard?

Greene and Mickens have the edge because of their punt return ability, but how much do they prefer to have a big WR for inside of the red zone? Lee and Westbrook can handle punt return duties as well, so that also opens up the option even more because you don't have to keep Greene or Mickens simply for that role.

Ideally we stash Lazard on the PS, but would he stay there for the whole season?
Greene going to respect the fans or no? That's my biggest gripe with him

Therein lies the problem with keeping Greene.  Lazard may not last on the PS.

What Lazard shows in July and August will be a major factor in this 6th WR decision.

BTW - I bumped the thread - not because I think that Greene is a lock, but because so many were quick to write him off in this thread and a couple of others whenever he was mentioned as part of the camp battle this year.  I found that ridiculous then and even more so now when he's clearly got a foothold headed into mini-camp.

I just have a hunch that Lazard makes the team. Many had him projected for the 3rd or 4th rounds. His size is definitely something they could use in the red zone. It will be hard to cut Mickens due to his punt return ability and Wynn and Greene should make another roster. Who knows, if Chark, Cole and Moncrief look great in the pre-season, maybe they'd consider trading Westbrook if the offer is good enough.

I think Mickens is a longshot to stick.  Westbrook is likely the best returner of all of them  -  and Greene, Lee and Chark all have return experience.  Mickens will have to show more than just what he put on tape last season IMO and it would appear Greene has an edge on him thus far.
When the pads come on, we'll start to get a clearer picture.
  • Mickens has to show more than just return ability
  • Greene has to show consistency and ball security
  • Lazard will have to impress in more than just the red zone (he's one of four "big targets" now)
Only real production has been in the punt return game where Mickens proved be the real deal.
There's news now that Ramsey added Dez Bryant to the twitter and it was liked by Myles Jack. If Dez would just shut up and play football I'd maybe be for it. But he just doesn't seem like a Coughlin type player and would do more harm than good for the culture we've been establishing as of late.

At this point our WR room is way too crowded to add Dez to it.
Assuming Lee, Moncrief, Cole, Westbrook, Chark are locks and that we will add 1 more guy....I hope we pick Wynn. He had a great training camp last year before getting hurt and think he is pretty darn good football player. I know he is extremely small but with the way ASJ and Chark have been performing in the red zone drills so far I do not think a big redzone WR is a need at all.

I've been keeping up with the off season and have seen the praise for Greene and n the OTA's.  You should of seen Gabbert in practice, the guy was the GOAT at practice. They havnt even put on pads yet.   When Greene makes plays as a WR in games and doesn't fumble the ball then talk to let me know something.  The fight for our 6th WR should be fun to watch in training camp and Preseason. I still dint think Greene makes the roster, if he does good for him and I hope he can help contribute and add to his 125 career recieving yard.
Trade Lee?

You said they'd release him when the 2017 season ended.  That's why you were quoted. I've mentioned repeatedly in this thread how early in the offseason it is.  Everyone is aware of that.

I'm sure that narrative will gain steam again by August.

It's not realistic to trade him with the contract they just saddled themselves with. He'll be here for at least a couple of seasons now.

Obviously - but that won't stop people from suggesting it.

What we would get would be at less than what we put in at this point.

This is just another deadzone offseason idea that has popped up because our fan base is still adjusting to having little to nothing to talk about this time of year. Off seasons have been our moments of glory for the last decade but this one has been relatively uneventful in comparison to our recent ones. It has been tough, i watched FSU soft ball the other day because i ran out of stuff to care about that was jags related Confused .
