This guy is the 2nd coming of Johnny Manziel. No thanks.

Agreed.

My eye test is 93.6% accurate. Mayfield is short, can't read a defense, and will be a backup QB in the big boy league if he is lucky. Let's revisit this in 2 years.

Ok now i know you're joking. Mayfield carved up this UGA defense this first half. He was making the safeties do what he wants with his eyes. He took what he wanted.

Didn't you say we were under an Oesher curse?

; )
Getting a bit off topic, move draft/FA talk to the appropriate forums plz.

As for Bortles I'm sure he will be here and probably starting under center next season win or lose. I think if not much around him changes next year and he doesn't improve then you know.wait you have as that'll be the first time he had the same OC for three consecutive seasons.

Can't play under center, flea flicker, trick plays, read option. Waaaaaaay too familiar. No thanks.

Ok, back on topic...

Sounds like you described Deshaun Watson....wonder how he's going to turn out.

Jury still out on Watson, and back on topic, that was a Bortles like interception for Mayfield.

Do you want to keep doing this?

Mayfield threw an interception!? He sucks now. That does it!

Back on topic.

Bortles is toast, so we'll be drafting QB round 1. Hopefully Mayfield is there

And how is that working out in the second half?

Is it bad , that I automatically thought of Blake as well?

working out pretty good. Drove the team down like a pro and threw the game tying TD.
He reminds me of Flutie who was a pretty good pro but did not get many good oppurtunities.
I haven't followed Mayfield as closely as some of you diehards have, but his demeanor and personality are automatic turnoffs. As in, watch him talk for ten seconds and you immediately see him as an immature, self-absorbed brat. That, besides his antics and small size and Big 12 pedigree, make people compare him to Manziel.

I wish I could have seen him thriving under pressure. All I've ever seen him is folding.

Yep, don't want any part of that turd burglar.

Agreed.

I  agree  about  BB  (Bortles) .  The  least  he  could  have  done  was  run  more  often.  We  (Weaver  and  Co.)  took  way  to  long  to  decide  about  Del Rio.   We  should  not  make  the  same  mistake  about  BB.  I  know  he (BB)  means  well,  and  God  knows  I  myself  usually  perform  at  a  mediocre  level.   But,   I  am  not  paid  millions  to  lead  a  NFL  team.   Is   that  49's   Quarterback  from  Earth?!

I really don't see the comparison. Manziel was all about money and the spotlight, Mayfield is clearly passionate about the game.

Mayfield has gotten into a little off field stuff and he has some edginess to him, but it's not the same kind of behavior as manziel, where he was clearly being self destructive and it was painfully obvious that he had a substance abuse issue.

I also think that Hackett has been purposely holding the offense back the last game or so. The jaguars might have been telling us all they care about is winning, but the tram is smart enough to know that the playoff win matters a lot more than that Titans win.
(01-02-2018, 02:32 AM)IndyJagsFan Wrote: [ -> ]"I haven't followed Mayfield as closely" "compare him to Manziel"

It's uncanny how often these two quotes go together. Very few people that have followed him closely make this comparison.
We'll see what happens. The problem is that he did enough this year to keep us from having a high draft pick and going into free agency next year we may or may not have good options. Kirk Cousins really fell apart this year towards the end. Eli Manning may or may not be available.

The only way you're going to be able to move on is if the front office feels secure and comfortable with going from a four year starter to a rookie. And who do they ultimately feel that way about? Mayfield, Rosen or Jackson? At this point you hope that someone like Darnold or even Allen are there in the bottom of RD1 and you just hope they pan out while keeping Bortles for one more year to prove it.
I think he needs to go regardless. He's still too inconsistent. His footwork in Sunday's game was terrible and was seeing ghosts in the pocket. The QB position can be upgraded in the off-season.

Inconsistent? Going into week 15, he only had 8 INTs while throwing for 7 YPA and 60% for the season. His vision is a whole lot better and his pocket awareness is even better. He had two bad games, one of which he had to shoulder the team, but that doesn’t mean he’s bad or inconsistent. If you want to use last season as a reason to move on then OK but this season has been one of his better seasons in regards to fundamentals and mistakes.
