Uh oh .....  12/17/2017 - 1/16/2018 ..... bitcoin plunged $9k ..... from $19k down to $10k.   Personally, I'd like to see this thing tank.

Hope it drops to like $100 again so I can buy a [BLEEP] ton for the next run
In my opinion, if you buy this you're going to lose money... unless perhaps if you're a day trader.  Meanwhile, I've enjoyed the nice growth of ITA.  I only wish that I had bought more shares of it, but the 400 shares that I did buy are up 24%.  I may look for the next slight dip to pick up some more shares.

Just my opinion, bitcoin is going to kill a lot of people's portfolios, especially if they are "all in".  It's a risky and (in my opinion) a stupid investment.  There is no value there.

traditional january slump, althought I think Etherium is the stronger playform
They're all down...Of course because I bought into some Etherium and Litecoin...
Bitcoin was obviously pumped up in mid December and tons of people were buying in. It really had no place to go but down at that point. Lots of people lost a lot of money.
This is not going to end well. There is absolutely nothing to support the value of a bitcoin. It's purely imaginary.

If it drops that far, there will be no next run.  No one will trust it.

It's already happened before. Granted this is highest run it made, but it will make another.

South Korea is going to outlaw it, and I imagine we will follow suit soon after. No way to tax it, so it only makes sense that it becomes illegal. Plus the North Koreans are using it to fund their survival, so it makes sense for the US and its allies to kill it.
You tax it on Capitol gains. You can show what you put in and took out on the wallets. South Korea is actually behind cryptos, specifically icx. China is behind certain projects and many banking institutes are buying in. It's not going anywhere.

So are our real dollars...

I've tried to tell that to a lot of people.  It's not an investment, it's a gamble.  People that are "investing" in this are going to lose a lot of money.

In other news ITA closed up 1.18% today closing at $198.99.  I only wish that I had bought more shares than I did a little over a year ago (11/10/16) When I bought it at $137.50.  The shares that I did buy are up 44.72%.  I also picked up some more this past November at $177.26 and those shares are up 12.26%.
What if I told you certain entities are using the news of countries “banning” cryptos in order to reinvest their gains in the dip?

HODL baby.

Meanwhile my mining rig is chugging along happily on the other side of the room, enjoying the lowered difficulty courtesy of the folks who dropped out all at once.

I might buy myself another GTX 1070 when they all dump their cards for half the MSRP.
Crypto currency is the next internet people just don't realize it yet. It will do for banking what the internet did for mail. A fast secure way to transfer money across the globe in minutes instead of days. A ledger that can't be manipulated with currency that has a limit of how much is created. A block chain designed to work in a patent system for digital content and media to protect creators and make it so others can't steal their work. Some of It is really incredible stuff and some of it is a Ponzi scheme. Research, hodl. See what value the coin or tech has and what team is around it. It is already at work in Kenya in a somewhat silly form. It certainly has a a place at the table. To be ignorant to the possibilities of the tech is to be a ignorant to an entirely new tech that could change the face of currency as we know it.

I see that value in the network, anyone who can connect to the internet can use it.

The argument can be made that Block Chain technology is the bigger picture than Crypto, but I think both will be huge eventually.

My mind was blown when I heard about that system they use in Kenya.

It's pretty wild. Not really a crypto but it is digital currency like Apple pay or Google pay. When you have places like Venezuela with a currency in shambles it becomes easier to believe in these things.

I think it started as just an additional mobile network service. So you could pay money on to your mobile phone account and then use that to pay.  Became so handy that it eventually became common place.

Yeah makes a ton of sense for places with less infrastructure.

A long way down the road an economy purely ran on digital money could become very very dangerous though. Lots of pitfalls.

They had a long long long (did I say long?) article about that in the New York Times today.  I got about halfway through and got totally lost.
