I think it's because of the context in which we are using it for a fun activity, that has nothing to do with the actual subject matter.
On a more humorous note, I can remember when my nephew was like 3 or 4. My sister tried to discourage him from saying "fart". It was his favorite thing to talk about. He would laugh hysterically and she thought it was very rude. Instead, she made him start referring to it as a "hiney burp", which in my opinion brought much more attention to the matter and made him laugh even harder.
