Quote:Bobby Layne was a drunk and that turned out fine.
Bobby Layne said that the one and only time he was sober for an NFL Championship Game ( 1954 ), the Lions lost 56-10 to the Browns. He actually did play better after consuming alcohol.
Quote:Based on his mechanics, would he be a scotch guy or a vodka guy?
Definitely a beer guy. That's a 'watch me hit the trash can from here with my empty can/bottle' wind up.
Quote:I have seen Him at the beach bars a lot and saw him at the bars in Orlando when he was at Ucf.
But who am I to judge? I was there too.
To be clear, in know way am I judging him. There happens to be a correlation, though unproven, between this and his play. I tried to be as fair as possible in how I worded my post. I believe, if what my source told me is factual, that this would be coming out one way or another which is why I decided to post it. I could be wrong, but I did check with multiple people at the beach and those people didn't sound surprised and also gave me different stories which would back up my source.
Quote:I wonder what exactly "getting wasted" actually means? Is he getting physically drunk where he can't walk or talk?
Now it doesn't surprise me that players might actually go out and "over indulge" at times. My son worked at a place where he said that he saw Josh Scobee come in and drink quite heavily.
True. He described him as noticeably drunk and it made an impression on him. I also spoke with someone else about seeing him out at an event which I won't go into the details, but I got a similar response that he was noticeably drunk and it made an impression on them.
lol as I was reading this, my wife showed me a picture that one of her bartender friends posted. It was a picture of Bortles with a goofy grin and beer spilled all over his shirt.

I definitely thought this thread would bring about more stories to back up my source. We have a few already. I have to think the Jaguar hire ups have been aware of this to some extent.
I'm going to venture to say his drinking habits are not that different from the guy that threw for 35 TD's and 4400 yards last year. For some reason or another, he has lost most if not ALL of his confidence.
I believe this would makes most 20 somethings alcoholics. Young folks like to party. Does not make them alcoholics. Not to mention complete hearsay.
Being a true pro at anything rarely, if ever, leaves room for over indulging. My thoughts on Bortles regression prior to this thread were that he's probably been partying and chasing girls too much with his free time. This thread seems to support that thought.
Being seen out occasionally is one thing. Being known as a "regular" at a particular spot or spots, especially during the season, is quite another.
If true, he's going to get a lot of people fired and contribute to hurting a lot of his teammates' pay checks. People don't tend to like their work colleagues messing with their pay checks, so this will eventually come to light if it's true. Let's hope it isn't.

No it doesn't. I can say though there are a lot of accounts and it feels very similar to the Blackmon situation except for the fact that I think Blake loves to play football and cares.

And I wouldn't have posted over single accounts. The source witnessed it consecutively over a period of time.
It's too hard to tell and say. I have seen that a lot on here too. And funny enough I thought about that during the Raiders game. One of the commentators mentioned that Derek Carr was excited to be in this area for this weekend. Something along the lines that he was happy to have his wife and two kids here with him or something like that. And I hate to say this. But that's a good way to keep a man grounded and out of trouble. When they have a family to take care of. That's not to say other players have families and make selfish choices here and there. But it's rare. I've never ran across an athlete with a family and questioned his behavior or antics. Donovin Darius when I was growing up me and my family would bump into that man ALL the time at a Publix with his family just being a normal guy. We'd bump into him at Golden Coral during the off-season on Southside at the time just eating with family and being a good family man. So it goes hand in hand. Go back and look at the issues Matt Jones had. Look at the issues Reggie Williams had. Khalif Barnes. Etc. I know a lot of folks are dissapointed Tyson Alualu never panned out as the 10th overall pick (Wasn't his fault he was over drafted) but he's another guy that has a wonderful family, puts them first, and he just shows up everyday and does the best he can. It's managed to keep him on this roster for awhile now.
I think there's a lot to be said about that to be quite honest. Justin Blackmon was a very lonely soul man. He had a pretty sad story coming out of highschool where he had lost a friend or two in a car accident. So he maybe drank all that away. But it's just a funny thing I guess. How that all works. I remember thinking how awesome Phillip Rivers was on draft day. He wasn't at the draft physically. He was at home in Carolina with his wife and kids and you could see on his face and eyes that he was a very mature and fiery man. That he'd probably be a good quarterback. And he has been. Maybe Blake's just not mature. His body language is so goofy on the field when he makes mistakes. Kind of dopey like a highschool kid. Maybe he's still trying to live his life outside of football and doesn't want to quite come out of that frat boy / bachelor lifestyle just yet. And that's fine. But until he starts looking the part and playing the part. Every little thing this fanbase can find on him to nitpick will be found and it will be brought up. Homeboy can shotgun all the beer he wants. He can take as many Fireball shots as he wants. Just as long as he's winning football games and not embarassing this city and franchise off the field.
Keep Bortles out of Hoptinger
Kenny Stabler was a drunk until he died. He played in a different era, though. In this day and age, IF TRUE, it does not help things. It affects energy, focus, and certainly performance in practice (I assume he is not doing this on Saturday night).

I do think there is something to that. My wife and I were talking about that maybe a month ago. I definitely think that a healthy marriage results in less "dumb" decisions on both sides. There are always positives and negatives with everything, but having unlimited options and freedom without consequences (a husband or wife demanding accountability along with kids helping you not to be so self centered) can certainly have its downside. I'm not saying that is the issue, but it certainly wouldn't be out of line to think that.

I want the Jaguars to be great as we all do. But I like Blake because I believe he wants to win, works hard, cares and has a great relationship with the fans. Honestly, I'm more concerned for Blake the person than Blake the Jaguars QB.
I have a close friend that says Bortles sits to pee. Don't want to give away too much information though because I don't want my source outed.
Bortles must still be taking the Lindsey Duke breakup pretty badly... I know I would.

She knew he was a bust.

Does your friend wipe him?
