If this guy turns into a monster, then what? When Campbell and Dareus leave you’ll be saying “man... really wish we had some more DLine help.”

If they end up with Goedert or Gesicki in round 2, then what?

This FO is not Gene Smith or Gus Bradley. They’ve proven they can build a roster and know how to evaluate talent. Bryan has all the tools in the world and he will be learning from Campbell. This D group won’t let him slip up at all. They push each other every day in practice. If there was one team that can make Bryan a pro bowl player, it’s this team.

So ease up and enjoy the draft. Tonight should be awesome!
It was a good pick. Our inside linemen are relatively old and will eventually need successors. We had to look to the future.

first off, campbell is like 6'8... he aint no campbell clone

however, I'm fine with the pick... Dline is so important, and the guy does have insane athletic ability... not having the football instincts though scares me as that is the kind of stuff some guys never learn

I really... REALLY dont want to cut ANY of our expensive vets, because they are pro bowl level players.  They are extremely important to us and I have NEVER been a fan of drafting guys to take over for vets that are still really good just because of money

this team can find other ways to save money, not giving big money to WR's that arent special.  Our dlinemen are special

I'm fine with this guy as long as we plan on keeping our other guys until they actually show decline.  Jackson and Dareus starting, abry speling Dareus, and Taven spelling Jackson as well as Campbell I am fine with... our line will be fresh

but I do not want another Joke-yl replacing Monroe situation and the Joke being worse than the former
(04-27-2018, 07:52 AM)flgatorsandjags Wrote: [ -> ]I do admit he maybe has the most upside out of all the defensive players in this draft

There's no upside. Short arms and a demonstrative inability to hold the point of attack. If he's on the turf so much in these college contests, he'll end up on a taxi squad now that he's in the pros. Check the base. Narrow by my own standards. By the way he is flipped off his feet it appears he lacks the ideal wide base needed to flourish in the trenches. A one year starter at Florida isn't the same thing as a one year starter at Alabama. I also don't seen ANY positional flexibility. None. He has not shown on video any kind of ability to pass rush with consistency like a defensive end pass rushes.

David Caldwell has just drafted Tyson Alualu 2.0. The fact that this prototype is STILL appealing after all those years of over-matched nothing from Alualu strongly suggests Caldwell was put up to picking Bryan by somebody who knows nothing about football. So let's not allow the local media to put Tom Coughlin behind the eight ball for this pick.

Also, most of his "quicks" relates to passive trap blocking by the opposing offensive lineman. It's kind of nifty how they do it now. If the offensive lineman makes the classic trap block itself, the sidelines will quickly identify it as trap-blocking and the coordinator will move on to something effective against it. By remaining passive, the offensive lineman gives the impression the defender opposing him is getting quick penetration. That's what the sidelines sees and thinks. Yet, the reality is the defensive lineman has be influenced into a gap and he emerges in no man's land.

Surprise! You’re whining.

Wait. Not surprised.

This team is not building like Denver to try and put all their marbles in for one run. Again, remember 1999? 2008?

Take care of the future. That’s how you build a team that can sustain a run. Not put all your chips in for one season hoping to win it all

I posted this in the College Football section but I'll post it here too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg__eL7qRws

Definitely great stuff by that guy

Oh wow. So against two crappy teams with crap for Olinemen he did okay?

Awesome. I'm so glad the NFL is filled with linemen that suck.

I can't tell these total buffoons narrating this biased appraisal apart from Jaguars' scouts. Chilling. Real chilling.

"So you end up with this picture of a guy looking like the proverbial blind dog in a meat house just running around without paying attention to his keys, when it may have been (probably was) that he was coached to play that way as part of the game plan."

Remind me of Jags02 when we went to that beer festival in Portland.
Give Taven Bryan a year to work with Marion Hobby and play a minor rotational role, and by 2019 he's could be ready to take Malik Jackson's spot and clear a boatload of cap-space.

It may not be the most ideal scenario - but something has to be done about the money being thrown at that D-Line before it's time to play Jalen Ramsey and Yannick Ngakoue.

This could be the fix we need there.
Everyone is saying he's Calais Campbell's replacement, but I don't see it. Most likely, he's Malik Jackson's replacement.

Yep. One-gap-firing natural pass rushing 3 tech.
That's Jackson's role and it's the scouting report on Bryan.

If Bryan is ready to replace Jackson in 2019 it will clear 11 million from the cap.

But but but we didn’t NEED a defensive tackle!!!

Bull spit. Remember when we couldn’t rush the passer and get push on the D-line to save our lives for years after Stroud and Henderson were put out to pasture? Do we really want to go back to that?

Take care of the future and the future will take care of the present.
I won't lie, at first I was like who? I HATED the pick. I wanted Hernandez bad. But after seeing the post pick vids on the kid and the interviews with TC and Dave, I can honestly say this was definitely a BAP. Not a reach for need but true BAP. How can you be upset with that?
(04-26-2018, 11:39 PM)NYC4jags Wrote: [ -> ]Lots of big salaries looming on defense. This pick eases the pain of letting a talented vet walk to clear cap space.

Plus - let's not forget Coughlin's Brady-beating strategy with the giants... waves of pass rushers. Endless waves of pass rushers.

I agree with this.
Coughlin never wants to see another 3rd and eighteen converted against his team. The pick has Coughlin written all over it.

It has to be hard to be so cynical and negative all the time.
another UF player, another bust on the horizon

when will this organization learn about the gators? They have more busts than any college football team by a longggg shot

we lucked out with fred taylor, and that's about it...

They just gush over his upside and raw brute strength

After watching video on Bryan that review makes no sense!  He held his position very well against double teams, He threw off linemen to get free of blocks,  His bull rush drove double teams ether drove lineman back or held his ground.  I don't know how NFL prospects would watch his video and come up with that evaluation.  He is a beast and will ensure our D line will continue to dominate this coming season.  A must against the quarterbacks in our division and playoff teams we face this year.

Naaah... years of practice, dedication and some natural ability and I bet it becomes second nature.
If Jackson is still playing good football, then i dont want to save 11 million by cutting him.
