The guy has all the physical tools. And he will be able to learn how to play from the great players who surround him. There is nothing that should prevent him from becoming a great player himself aside from a lack of effort on his part. I guess we'll find out if it happens.
Let's just be honest. Based on his play, this guy was a late round prospect until March after his combine.

This pick spells the end for our Pro Bowl 3 tech that we just signed 2 seasons ago. There is no way to justify the pick without cutting/trading Malik, maybe as soon as this offseason. If Bryan comes in and is outplayed by Jackson and Dareus (likely), and Jones and Bennett (possible), then what do you do with him? You can't practice squad him. You hqve to cut better players than him.
There's constant turnover in the NFL. When you have so few holes like we do then it's the smart move to go BAP with a. Pick like this. Chances are slim you're going to get an impact starter off the bat at 29 anyway. Bad teams reach to draft for needs and get stuck with average players. Good franchises that have sustained streaks of winning choose the best player available. We just drafted a raw player with insane athletic measurables and JJ Watt upside according to multiple scouts. Who can really be mad about that? Well besides the incessant whiners like jungle cat and bklyn.

But he will hardly contribute this season. We want to run the ball so much but pass on top OL
I guess you never found a player you liked unless you declared him as one of your player to picks.  Apparently you player evaluations are superior to any NFL coaching staffs idea of talent.  I don't know why the Jaguars don't consult you before making their picks. I can't understand why the Jaguars keep Caldwell when BklynJag is available.

Based on his play he would be a late round pick? Have you watched him play or are you browsing box scores? If you watched him play then his athletisicm and explosion should have been evident to you immediately. He was always going to be a 1st round guy this year and if he stayed another season and continued to develop chances are you'd be looking at a top 10-15 pick.

So basically, you have some degree of confidence that he's not even better than Abry Jones and Michael Bennett - while the F.O. apparently thinks he may challenge a starting DT in due time.

Time will tell, I guess.

IMO this was a case of BAP and a bit of a look to the future cap. There is no way we are going to have the cap space to keep all of the salaries currently on our defense when Ramsay and Jack are up for renewal. Bring this guy in now, coach him up, have him learn from Campbell and Jackson while also providing rotation to keep the Dline fresh and when the time comes to free up cap room he'll still be on his rookie contract.

Did I expect the Jags to go D-Line prior to the draft? No. But I don't think it was a bad move at 29.
One other option here. His presence and expected development may provide the team leverage for when it comes to renegotiating with the likes of Malik Jackson and Marcel Dareus.

Tom "If you want to keep on playing here, there's gonna have to be a lower cap hit assigned to your name. Makes no difference to me 'cause I already got a guy on the roster that can do your job."

Malik/Marcel "Come on Dave, you know I deserve that money! What are we doing here?!"

Dave "Hey, I believe you! But it ain't me you gotta convince."

Definitely great stuff by that guy

As a Gator fan, this actually makes me feel worse about the pick. The video was against UK and FSU!!! Thats not good at all.

And he only did ok.

I dont get paid to make picks so i hope they got it right.

Especially with Lamar Jackson sitting right there.
BAP is real.

The albino tiger definitely emerged briefly from the jungle last night.

Of course the effect on next year's cap had to factor in as well.

Interesting note:
Caldwell is saying that he can rotate in at big end or 3 tech.

The over reactions on this board is disappointing

Try moderating it for a while and that feeling will balloon exponentially.
(04-26-2018, 11:39 PM)NYC4jags Wrote: [ -> ]Lots of big salaries looming on defense. This pick eases the pain of letting a talented vet walk to clear cap space.

Plus - let's not forget Coughlin's Brady-beating strategy with the giants... waves of pass rushers. Endless waves of pass rushers.

And while it was marginally less effective statistically against the Patriots, this was the Eagle's strategy to get to and win the Super Bowl. You can't have too many quality DLinemen.

I am a Gators fan and watched every game. If I asked you what separated him from any of the other linemen on that team and said that you can't answer with "athleticism", what would you say?

I know he isn't better than Malik or Marcel. At this point in time he's probably not better than Abry. Who knows with Bennett since he was injured. If you asked for my opinion, I think Bryan would have a Bennett like impact in his 1st year.

You don't think that 2019 impact is a much bigger factor here given the cap situation?

If Cough-Well are right about him - he will influence the release or re-structure of D-Line players that are costing the Jags too much money and may prevent them from re-signing young talent like Ramsey and Ngakoue.

Oh wow. So against two crappy teams with crap for Olinemen he did okay?

Awesome. I'm so glad the NFL is filled with linemen that suck.

How is no one scared by this?

Both these teams suck. And he wasn't even that good against them.

NEWSFLASH - the NFL has 100x better olinemen than UK and FSU on EVERY team.

well its not a fact its your opinion that there were better players. but your opinion isnt the one that matters TC and DC stated this was the best player left on their board and if they felt he was the best player that still may not be fact but their opinion. But it is their opinion that really matters. And im sure he will be in the rotation playing week 1
