Simple question. Are you in or out after our BAP 1st round?

Yes.

Over time, on average, you build the better team than by doing otherwise.

Needs that aren't filled by BAP are back filled in free agency.

And remember, BAP only exists in early rounds where players grades have significant differences.

I am all in on BAP. It’s what the good teams do.

I actually wanted them to keep building on the defense.

Guys like Calais Campbell aren't that young.. Neither is Barry church for instance. We lost POZ.

I think it would be a mistake to just think that the status quo is enough to keep our defense good. Keep adding on to it if we want to return to where we were.

Depends, this year yes! we have the luxury of drafting BAP right now.

Yes as long as we remember everything that goes into taking a player.

Teams have tiers and vertical/horizontal boards to draft. From the sounds of it we had a group of players all ranked similarly and we took the top one.

Just remember that the war room would have discussed these players ad naseum. They would have talked about positions we will need to replace next year. They would have talked about depth of talent at each position in the draft, talked about who will be on the board in round 2+3.

This wasn't a 'Bama one year starter where they are guaranteed amazing. This is a Florida one year starter... ugh.

In the early rounds yes. Take a flyer on need or experimental players later in the draft.

When you don’t draft BAP you leave that player for another team and lose value. Also, your needs are constantly changing. Who would predict we’d lose three offensive lineman in week 1 if 2008? What about last year? We didn’t need a WR because had Robinson right? You will always have holes and needs that require plugs. So just build the best roster with the best players. And if not, trade back and recoup value. For yourself to the pick. Use FA to cover gaps.

this guys is an athletic freak.  yes, freak.  Freak is usually overused but it fits the bill perfectly.

he's raw, but hoping that playing next to Calais Campbell, Yannick, Malik etc make him learn some good moves/countermoves... combined with his athleticism and it could be scary

You don’t draft a player based on his college stats or career or school he played in. you draft him based on what you think he can or will become.

And that's how teams fail.

He wasn't even impressive in his highlight reel. Against scrubs.

Yep. Those DE’s who get tons of sacks and QBs who throw for 45 TDs in college always succeed in the pros. Because they had good stats in college means they always perform well

He's supposed to be a pass rushing DT. Against inferior talent he had inferior numbers.

There is no inferior talent in the NFL.

This criticism sounds a lot like the same for another Gator we selected at #3 overall (myself included.)

How'd that work out in the long run?

And again your relying on numbers when overall draft history tells us you can’t rely on college numbers. It’s a whole different animal. Your drafting for their intangibles, their upside and what you think they can do in the NFL. 

I like how we’re already declaring a pick and play bad and the guy hasn’t even done minicamp yet.

I'm certainly still down with it. He was a logical choice for the future. In our current situation we have the luxury of being able to just go BAP which is a nice change.
