I think my opinion of him is even higher when you look at this.If the Jags can open up the pass game like the Rams did last season we could have an explosive offense. I'm pretty sure Gurley saw a lot of eight man boxes in the previous season.
How many of the others on this list (and off it) would have had the seasons they did with this sort of opposition?
9 NFL RBs rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2017
The % of att/w 8+ defenders in the box:
Leonard Fournette - 49%
Jordan Howard - 43%
Mark Ingram - 42%
LeSean McCoy - 36%
Melvin Gordon - 29%
Kareem Hunt - 24%
CJ Anderson - 22%
Le'Veon Bell - 20%
Todd Gurley - 17%
I agree. (regardless of Gurley's prior stat line)
I really think that by simply running out of a more multiple look half of the time - that loaded box percentage will shift favorably. They telegraphed the run too often last year.
If Blake is able to connect somewhat consistently on some intermediate or deep routes out of play action early in games, that dynamic will shift even more.
