I wonder if the jaguars hang onto Bortles if he'll one day be the next Foles. There was a time Bortles looked like a real up and comer, same for Foles. Now Foles is rebuilding his value based on his performances as a backup late in seasons. I could see something similar happening for Bortles if we keep him around as a backup. In limited exposure I think he'll do fine.
The only reason Blake would re-do his contract is to get more guaranteed money. Jags should not do that. But I have no problem if they make him the bridge QB

Interesting that when he was benched all the players on the team have had chances in games.

It is apparent that we will add a veteran and still pick a QB in the draft.

After watching Gabbert play yesterday for the Titans ,  there would be no reason to look at this as an option in 2019

There aren't enough variations of the word "no" to describe both the likelihood of this move and the intelligence level of anyone doing it.
If you were going to make $18M next year and knew you would never make that again would you take less...hell no! He's going to make $7M a year for the next 10 years as a backup probably with 3 or 4 different teams.

I agree.  He's a limited qb.  But if the Oline is intact, he's serviceable as a bridge to the rookie.

I have to admit, it was good seeing Blake out there today.  It just seemed right.
I have been saying for awhile now. We cant afford to cut him eat 16.5 mill sign a vet that isnt any better for 8-10mil. I think we should draft oline first round, WR second Round, Oline 3rd and keep BB.Wait till 2020 for a better class of QBs. cause if you draft a rookiee and dont fix that line he will get gunshy just like gabbert and bb
But I thought everyone was better than Bortles? Where are all the kessler is better guys gone?

He's an average NFL starter he should be kept until a better option is found.

Bortles sucks and Kessler is trash.
Umm they benched Bortles for the awful Kessler.

How in the world do they decide to bring him back?
Backup........

Coughlin: "Hey Blake, we'd like to bring you back next year."
Bortles: "Uh, ok."
Coughlin: "We're going to need to re-do your contract."
Bortles: "What?"
Coughlin: "And you're going to be the back--"
Bortles: "[BLEEP] you."
With a chance to start..... Bortles will most likely be a backup where ever he goes, but he would have a chance to start in J-Ville

NO. He's bad karma. Cut bait. Start fresh. His presence alone would be negative. You need new hope and not be reminded of all the bad vibes.

Go watch your Steelers.....
I would love Grier with Bortles as the back up
What if they actually embracedsed his run centric style and did what the ravens are doing with bb5. All season before he was benched i wished he would actually keep the ball and run but it almost looked like he was told never to pull it and the defensed never honoured blake. This last game he actually pulled it and the dolphins didnt expect it at all.

Plus we will see BB5 with molinovich as OC for one game if he starts next sunday, something we havent seen yet.

I loved watching them yesterday!

Kessler is better at what QB's are supposed to do than Bortles. That doesn't make Kessler a good QB. With the state of the OL, Bortles can use his athleticism to make plays were Kessler can't.

What has Bortles done to make you think he'd take this approach?  It's not unprecedented for players to re-do contracts. I'd say it's possible. A best case scenario might be to trade him for high second-round pick but you'd have to find a taker.
Borltes would more than likely scoff at the idea of a restructure as he should. He owes nothing to this franchise. They benched him when it was clear to anyone with eyes that the QB position was not the reason the team was failing this year.

I agree with this. If it were up to me Blake would be RPO/Read option all the time. Blake is best when on the move. He is never going to be a drop back and stand in the pocket guy. Let him do what he does best and run.

In all honesty, I'd probably find another team to root for. I kinda like the Chargers and I tried to watch them play the Ravens. I just couldn't. I despise watching running QB's. I'm old school. QB's pass and RB's run. Every time the Ravens went on offense, I had to change the channel. Watching QB's running the ball, is about as boring to me as watching golf on television or watching a Youtube channel where someone else is playing a video game. I can't do it. Maybe it has something to do with OCD or something mental, but for me, it's actually painful to watch. It really makes my head hurt.
Lol

So Blake takes a massive pay cut (for no reason) and then is told he will be the backup or just a place holder?!

Some of you are taking crazy pills but MERRY CHRISTMAS! Even to you Bortles lovers out there.
