Regarding Hockenson, I am saying I am unsure about his blocking. I have an Iowa game or two recorded somewhere but I have to find them. In the interim I am reduced to watching clips, which places emphasis on pass plays for TEs. When I see measurements putting him in the 235 lb range (which I said.I don't fully trust) then I wonder about his physicality. If both he and Fant are truly in the 235 lb range, it matters little which is lined up in the true Y position, as both would likely have trouble with point of attack physicality at the NFL level at that weight.
Based upon what I have seen of them, I like both of them as prospects. Furthermore, Iowa has produced some very good TE prospects over the years. But I haven't seen either of them doing much in line blocking, and I am unsure of their measurements. That's why I am saying I need more information on them.
The Iowa roster has Hockenson at 250 for what it’s worth.
And they had Fant at 241.
Thanks.
If those are their actual weights. I feel a little better about them. But I would have little doubt some teams would want another 5 lbs from Hock and another 10-15 lbs from Fant.

Im at the game, Khalen Saunders 99 stands out big time to me. Looks fast and strong. Locks arm looks great but his accuracy needs work. And the Penn state QBs arm looks really strong. But he doesn't seem to throw deep or be able to.

Where do you seeing Hockenson is at 235? And what makes you unsure about his blocking when he is the best blocking TE in the draft. He mauled defenders on numerous occasions. Remember this block early in the season? He reminds me of when Kittle was coming out with his elite blocking but TJ is a better receiver than Kittle was coming out of the draft

Thanks. I am watching on NFLN. Some flag happy refs.
So far none of the QBs are overly impressive though I think Lock and Grier have had some decent moments.

For clarification...
1. I am NOT knocking Hockenson. I am saying my evaluation of him is incomplete. I have recorded a game or two of Iowa this year, but I haven't dug them out yet to review them. Watching full games would have given me a much better indication of his blocking. I have seen clips of Hockenson and Fant, but the clips show them running pass routes and not run blocking.
2. I saw his weight on one of those highlight clip montage things. That's why I didn't trust the measurements. Just looking at them, they (Hock and Fant) looked bigger than 235. We won't get official measurements until the combine. I will rely on those, since he wasn't at the Senior Bowl getting measured.
3. I had NOT seen the clip of that block against Indiana! Two words for you: "Thanks" and "Wow!" When it came to him being the traditional Y, it didn't matter to me if he were the better in line blocker between he and Fant, IF he and Fant were both undersized prospects. But that clip has enlightened me.
4. I still have my doubts about TC's willingness to take a TE in the first round, even if we trade down. I am thinking back to TC's first draft as a HC, and I can't recall a single time he ever drafted a TE in the first round. When you couple that with what, to me, were questionable measurements for Hockenson, I wasn't prepared to say TC would draft him in the mid first round. Even with the information you guys have provided (thanks again for that clip. That was awesome), even if you assume he is the perfect TE prospect, I'm still unsure if TC would take him with a first round pick.
Like I indicated, absent complete information, because he went to Iowa, which is an underrated school when it comes to reliably producing quality NFL talent, he and Fant were going to get the benefit of the doubt from me, but I wasn't going to give a complete analysis on him or Fant.
I wasn't knocking Hockenson or opposed to drafting him. As I indicated, I wanted/needed more information.
Hope that helps clarify.

Should of int a pick by Jones

He looked good up to they point. Ran in a TD at end of the drive.

Lol, a real game is a little different than practice
McLaurin is 9ne of those guys that bailed Haskins out

Yeah it's hard to say whether he or Jones had a worse week. At least Jones looked somewhat competent in the game.
I know you aren't supposed to overreact to one week, but as someone who was already very lukewarm on all of Lock/Jones/Grier it just confirmed that we need to stay away from all of them. Do what it takes to get Haskins or Murray.

Not gonna let a couple snaps from a Senior Bowl change my mind on any of the players except Andy Isebella. That guy is going to be like a faster Wes Welker. I hope we can somehow come away with that guy. Isabella is going to be hell to cover in the NFL
01-26-2019, 07:10 PM
Nobody really showed out today. Grier, Lock, Jones, and Jackson all locked decent though. I can see the comparison to Lock and Mohomes though, that underhand toss he got from Favre
01-26-2019, 07:14 PM
I liked lock interviews and his 4 year start compared to murray/haskins 1 year. Again I don't see enough college to voice seen opinion, other than highlights of each.
I like locks arm able to throw across field with ease.
What is murray and haskins arm power like?

No, if I were sky high on Grier like you are I wouldn't let an adverse week in this type of situation sway my opinion much. It's not the best environment with a brand new set of coaches/plays/receivers/etc.
But if you're already not very high on him, I think it's fair to use this week to confirm that opinion.

Finley made some nice throws as well
01-26-2019, 07:25 PM
Grier out of everyone was the guy who should have thrived in this environment. Had 3 of his receivers with him and overall should have been the most polished QB present.
I'm not so sure the Senior Bowl matters much big picture wise apart from a handful of players every year
