NH3...

I wasn't specifically calling you out.

I've always been in the camp that the WRs were fine and we'd be ok. I was open to one of the WRs in the draft, especially if Metcalf fell to the 3rd, but I wasn't concerned myself.

There just seems to be a bit of a flip on the opinion of the WR group around here in general.

There was at most one or two people who were worried about Pryor taking our young WRs snaps
We’re back to being pathetic at WR

We've been pathetic at WR ever since ARob went down.

  • Dede Westbrook
  • Chris Conley
  • DJ Chark
  • Marqise Lee
This is in no particular order as they all pretty much rank the same... maybe an edge to Dede here.

So the 5th WR spot is up for grabs. I'm looking at three primary contenders for that 5th spot...

Keelan Cole
Terrelle Pryor
Michael Walker

I'm like the Walker possibility since he's also be a return specialist should he earn a spot.

A few other UDFAs are in the mix (Tyre Brady, Dredrick Snelson and Raphel Leonard), although their more likely to make the Practice Squad should any make the team.

I believe the last two years when we cut down to the 53 man roster, we had 6 WRs.  If Michael Walker makes it, and I'll be rooting for him, I think we'd go with 6 WRs.  Unless Walker was a surprisingly good receiver, and not just a returner.

But not in a good way.

I was definitely caught up in his pure physical traits

Not that there's anything wrong with it...
Finally, officially signed.
I see this signing as similar to the Jalen Strong signing a while back.

He was a fairly capable receiver with a little upside who eventually got on the field briefly when three other Jags receivers were sidelined by injury. It'll be tough for him to make the roster, much less crack the starting lineup.
I'd love to embrace Terrell Pryor but he torched our high school for  3 runs for 151 yards and 3 TDs.  When I asked the existing AD why they didn't task a LB with following Terrell, he stated they tasked all 3 LBs with that assignment.

To make matters worse, his star RB (Jordan Hall) transferred out of our HS to play with Terrell at Jeannette HS.

Finally, Terrell deferred even visiting hometown Pitt when he narrowed his selection to OSU and Penn State.  Word has it that he and coach Jim Tressel negotiated a deal that he would play there if OSU offered Jordan Hall (his best friend at that time) a scholarship.  Oh well, at least he didn't go to PSU.

Welcome to Jacksonville Terrell -- thanks for bringing back all of those bad memories. LOL

Holdup... is that 3 carries for 151 yards and 3tds? My word that's efficient. Would've thought the play caller would've called his number a few more times!
There is something there!

He’s 6’5 and can run away from DBs. We could use him like a Patterson up in New England.
Pryor is kinda interesting I have to admit even though I was against signing him. If he's as advertised, we may have additional red zone help.

McCardell on Pryor signing:

Quote:“We just needed another body – another veteran who can play,” McCardell said. “Not to say that my young guys, my rookies, aren’t coming. But you always want competition. I want competition. I want the best guys out there. If I could have five No. 1 receivers, I would have five No. 1 receivers on my team.

“I know if I take one out, I can put another one in and he’s going to produce. Just to have another veteran guy that has played the game and has some experience with this offense and understands how to play the game … that was the only reason we signed him.”

I keep thinking Marqise ends up on PUP until mid-season, and then they end up cutting Pryor or Cole when they bring Lee back.

If Pryor consistently shows up in the pre-season, this may happen and or he'll continue to be on the 53-Man roster. I DID Not like this signing, but they seriously signed him for a reason other than being an camp body.

As I continue to look at this situation w/respect to his previous years w/coaching, regardless of his travels. He definitely seems to fit the system regardless of how I feel.  This may respectfully be an resurrection.

Man, I love that quote. using 'my' instead of 'the' when referring to the WR corps indicates he takes full ownership of their training, development, and performance.  We got ourselves a heckuva coach in McCardell. And how motivating do you think that line of 'just another body' or "the only reason we signed him" will be to Pryor?

If that dude needs a chip on his shoulder to get it in gear, Keenan just gave him a wagonload of chips.
