Blake took a few shots downfield today. I don't think they "babied" him. They were able to run and Blake was able to hit some crossing and check downs wide open
I'll take what he did today anytime.
30 points and no turnovers, you can't really ask for much more.

Lots of short passes, moving the pocket and cutting the field in half for him, etc. That's something you would normally see designed for either a rookie QB getting his feet wet or a backup QB filling in for a week.
You take what they give you. Blake was targeting Cromartie all game long and ended up abusing him, the running game was working and we stuck to it. Bortles targeted the Allen's, and Lee was used on underneath routes. He managed the game perfectly. He doesn't have to turn into Joe Montana and launch it to Jerry Rice every game, he's been doing that and it ends up losing us games.
I want to clarify as well that I'm a fan of Blake and don't see this as an indictment against him. It's more of me pointing the finger towards the coaching staff. It reminds me of how the previous regime started treating Gabbert.
Sure, it worked this week and I'm happy we won but I hope this doesn't continue going forward.

Considering we were throwing the ball late in the game up two scores instead of running it up the middle to milk the clock, I dont know what he is talking about either

I agree with this. Nothing wrong with scheming to win. I just hope that's all it was and the staff has a bit more faith in him and aren't trying to simplify the game.

This, he looked down field on many plays before the check down or he took off and ran. He played a good game today. His best game this year
It was an easier game against the terrible colts but it wasnt anything special and shouldnt inspire huge confidence. There were still some bad decisions and his batted passes are insane

People don't like that he managed the game, it appears. I, for one, am glad we won in a manner that didn't necessitate 50 pass attempts. Who cares if it was ugly?

Eh, I'd like to see them throw more deep and intermediate routes too, but they were moving the ball pretty nicely with their gameplan today. Indy was giving them the underneath and they took advantage of that. Also Blake's confidence has been shot, so I don't mind a bit of "babying" to get him back in the groove.
Also I think a lot of moving the pocket and throwing on the move is just what Blake does well. Defenses have to account for his mobility and cheat towards the line of scrimmage. Again, I'd prefer less plays that half the field right at the snap, but with Blake's funk I don't mind them doing this to build his confidence back up.

Making good decisions isn't what is bothering people about the game. What bothers people about the game are things like throwing it at a couple of defenders in front of Hurns near the end zone in the first half and throws like that. Bad ball placement, missed reads, taking sacks on extended plays near the end of the half, etc.

+1.
That's all I've been trying to say.
Quote:I think Bart Scott said something similar. A lot of short passes.
They've been doing that all season so far and I don't know why. I think it's more of an indictment on our game plan and lack of a strong and consistent run game

Indeed. A Rob dropped what should have been a deep bomb

I think it's the latter. Teams are focusing on defending deeper passes since they know they don't have to crowd the box to defeat our poor run game.
There was a throw that he severely underthrew to A Rob that worried me. If it had been where it needed to be it was a TD.

Bortles bread and butter pass are those intermediate routes and they seemed to have taken them away. If the defense has adjusted there has to be a way to adjust on offense as well and work them back into the game plan.

^^ I second this.
-A balanced offense that can run the ball effectively when needed (most of the time).
- A defense that is holding opponents to 2 FGs during an entire half of play.
- An offensive plan that let's the QB manage the game with alot of short, effective throws.
- A QB that doesn't turn the ball over frequently (because he is game managing)
That is what wins football games. People don't like it. They want a gunslinger with tons of deep passes and high octane.
But, the truth is that game managing QBs that don't turn it over, and that can lean on the run game and defense will win you the game most times.
I, for one, really liked the offensive gameplan most of the day.
Bortles was accurate with a lot of short stuff, roll-outs, and using his legs.
The deep stuff did not look that good. But, I really liked that they went aggressive against Cromartie when they noticed he couldn't hang with AROB. They kept going after him, and he kept getting penalties, lol.
Vontae Davis ended up covering AROB for most of the 2nd half.
I hope the Jags keep the same game plan as what they had today.
