I don't think there's a happy medium when it comes to Coughlin. He's either loved or loathed and both sides of the fence have appealing arguments. It's a very weird, bi-polar feeling when he comes to mind. I wish there was a way to move him to more of a consultant role with less decision making ability..
It's generational, the Millenials can't handle the mental toughness.

I look at production. Besides, the last year of a contract is always easy to get out of, so it would essentially be a 2 year extension.
Still dominant *today*. But if you look at how he plays now vs what he was doing a couple years ago, he's not quite as consistent which is usually the first sign a player is aging and it happens fast in the NFL. Not For Long. Restructuring and extending for 3 more years is a huge stretch for a 33 year old defensive lineman.
Yeah, he still has another year on his deal after this year. Lets see how he plays the rest of this year and next. People on here want to extend guys with years still on there contracts lol, stupid

This is always the correct answer when looking at the contract of an aging player.
He's winning his race against Father Time right now, but that can change abruptly. Let it play out.
Everybody is rooting for the guy, but banking on him keeping this going beyond this season is optimistic at best.

...Calais is very much a millennial.

I'd say Calais' primary competition is Jimmy, but yeah, if we manage to hoist a Lombardi during his time here, I'm legally changing my son's name to Calais
Calais......is a MAN among men.

Checking in on Calais watch.
He's not the first and certainly won't be the last to get Nelson'd. He'll be just fine.
time for old man Campbell to be cut this offseason.
Are we pretending that Campbell hasn't been really good this year? He isn't putting up 14+ sacks, but he's still the best (and most consistent) defender we have.

I don't know about being cut, but definitely no need to extend anything at the moment.
Feels like he's losing a little consistency. But I also wonder if they just have him playing inside too much.

He's not as effective inside and there's also the inconsistency. That old father time element may be starting to hurt him laterally against the run.
These things almost always become easy decisions when it's time. The tape don't lie and he's got more of it to record.
No need to rush him out to pasture just yet.

Indeed.
Hell, he may decide he's done after this season...
They may want to talk restructure... He certainly sees that with Allen and Yan (if they don't screw it up) are going to be the starting DEs...Bryan is coming along on the inside.. He can be a good veteran rotational player for this team still without us needing him to be the beast starter he was in 2017/18.
However... if it's time to move on, it'll be 15 mil savings on the cap, with only 2.5 dead money.
It'll be sad to see him and Dareus go, knowing what they meant to this defense when we were balling on that side. But that's the NFL. Currently his contract is 8th best for his position.
He's still seeing about 80% of the snaps on D but probably starts to cede some of those to Allen... he isn't as quick to get to the run and will probably fall short of 10 sacks this year. He's still productive, but I don't know if he's 8th best DE money productive. He's also 3rd oldest DE in the league, behind Wake (37) and Bennett (34), who are both role players not starters on their teams and neither of them are sniffing 15 mil.
Campbell is still a very good DLineman. I’m letting him stay as long as he wants.
When he had the big season of 14.5 sacks, he also had Fowler, Prime Jackson, and that year we had 10 sacks vs the Texans and Colts.
I think he piled up sacks against those 2 teams.
