Shad already said he had made the decision to let him go at the end of the season.

Honestly? don't support this garbage, don't give them any money, that's all we can do.
Unfortunately this is where I am. My wife got me two jags shirts that I really like for Christmas, but I am going to return them. There's really only one way a fan can voice their displeasure so I feel kind of compelled to do it.

Gotta keep the gift man! Start that diet tomorrow.

Agreed, it's a Christmas present from your wife lol.
This team is a cure for happiness.
Everyone knows Im not a Caldwell guy, I was hoping we went in a different direction. A few things I will say though, I do think he is a much better GM than he was when he first came here and I do think he learned a lot from Tom, good and bad. Im hoping he can make the right decisions roster cuts, resigning Yan, and FA additions. He has 2 1sts and the rest of his draft picks. If he can hit on his picks, I think Minshew will help save him and Doug their jobs and we will make the playoffs next year
I’m probably alone, but I’m glad Caldwell is staying. He’s brought some good players in. What Campbell has done for this franchise is put the defense back on the map.
He pulled the trigger on Jack when everyone thought he would need knee surgery. He brought in Ramsey and drafted Minshew in the 6th round. Don’t forget Bouye and some other good moves.
A brief synopsis of the press conference.........
“ blah, blah blah, blah blah.”

Some of the decisions people complained about at the time make a bit more sense now, as well. The lack of any real attempt to resign Allen Robinson, for example.

This has been debunked 100 times. They
did try to re-sign Allen Robinson but he was determined to play elsewhere. Knowing his desire to play elsewhere (i.e. - not with Bortles) they did not use the tag on a guy rehabbing an ACL.

Would you have rather Khan bought the rams and we ended up with Kroenke and the LA Jags?
Khan is patient, sometimes to a fault. Of the three heads of our management, Dave, Doug, and Tom, I find the least fault with Dave. You can't say his drafts have been reminiscent of Gene Smith.
I'll say that the news surprised me absolutely not at all. Look at the situation - You have very little cap room, a mediocre QB with a ginormous cap hit, another young, up-and-coming QB, and a team that can't seem to keep players long term. What GM was jumping at that opportunity? Same with HC.
The only appeal we have are the extra picks from the Ramsey deal. It's not a dream location, unless you like overseas travel each year.

I thought there were a few interesting takeaways from that presser.
There was a common refrain about a streamlined system with DC/DM and Shad Khan all being in direct communication, which obviously excludes and implicates Coughlin. It also leaves Marrone/Caldwell with no scapegoat if they don't find a way to right the ship in 2020. They have to show marked improvement or lose their jobs.
There were the jokes about the fines - and Marrone and DC's laughter/lightness also implicate Coughlin in the whole NFLPA flap.
There was the references from each of them about this "plan" for fixing things - and while we don't know what that is - it tells us changes are coming at least.
I can't yet be optimistic about this regime continuing with some revamping, but I gleaned a few things from that presser.

Hearing that Marrone and Caldwell will work together to build the roster is a surprising. I find it so odd that Marrone had zero say in the players that were acquired.

I don't think he had
zero input, but I believe he'll have more this go round.

I believe it had little to do with Bortles and more so Allen Robinson seeing how Coughlin was destroying/running this team. Players have come out and said EVERYBODY got fined in 2017. Robinson seen all of that and probably didn't want to get fined for ridiculous crap as well. Who can blame him?
As well as the fact that I'm sure they gave him a low ball, take it or leave it offer, just like they did with Ngakoue and it probably rubbed him the wrong way as well. I mean it was basically the same situation with both of them. Got offered a new deal early on in the off season (even though no actual numbers ever came out) and then they had no contact for months after that. There was no working together to get a deal done, it was simply here's the low ball deal, take it or leave it.
Trubisky was also terrible his rookie year, so the narrative that Robinson wanted to get away from Bortles/bad QB play doesn't make sense imo. If he wanted to get away from bad QB play, why would he go somewhere that had a QB that people were already calling a bust after his rookie season.

This is actually pretty evident since after Coughlin was fired, Robinson was tweeting with a lot of ex players about Coughlin.
The funny thing is one of the main roles of Coughlin was to merge the coaching staff with the front office... And it worked in 2O17. Once everything fell apart in 2O18 I think Tom moved away from a more collaborative role and decided he knew what had to be done to fix things.

Although I think we would have been in a better position had we cleaned house and started completely fresh...
My opinion is completely opposite. To me Caldwell was the obvious one to part with if keeping only one of the two, Marrone I was closer to not being concerned either way - though I'd rather we had kept neither.
There were obvious picks that any buffoon could get right that he did. But besides those very few gimme picks where guys like Ramsey and Allen fell in his lap, the only position he seems to have a consistently good eye for selecting talent is WR. That, going back to Atlanta with Julio Jones. Like JDR and defensive coordinator role, perhaps his highest level of competency is/should be scout.
