How so? If the cap is so healthy, why are we always listing players that we can cut to make cap room?
Because the definition of a healthy cap is either having tons of space (colts) or being able to easily create space without hurting the roster much (Jags)
For example you can create 40 million in cap by cutting one starter and 4 backups who shouldn't be on the roster anyway.
Healthy is a curious way to phrase it. We're certainly not in danger of losing anyone that we deem critical to the team, but in relation to the rest of the NFL we definitely are on the restricted side of things. Especially since those teams also have the ability to create more room themselves.

40-50 million of cap isn't restrictive, especially given how easy it is to manipulate year 1 cap hits.
Next year a lot of money can be cleared too. Giving us a ton to work with.
Most NFL teams have healthy caps given the current era of smart structuring.

Why wouldn't we keep the good players that worked out for us. Would a Super Bowl and then be mediocre or would you want to keep trying to low ball our good players let them leave and continue to be in the top 10 draft picks almost every year?
And refresh my memory, how many Super Bowls have we won since we picked up that boatload of free agents in Coughlin's first year? And how is our cap looking now?
And thank you for bringing up Watkins and Matthieu. Two minor acquistions....i.e. Small final pieces to a larger puzzle. They were hardly major FA pickups.
Were we not 1 game away from the super bowl? and should have won that game for sure if the coaches didn't blatantly give away the game. Majority of Sacksonville were free agents aside from Jack,Tel, Yan and Ramsey, 4 players. There was no issue with the cap it was just bad management . Now that we damn near let everyone go somewhere else, look at where we are now. We had the money and used it right on free agents and then got sucked into blowing money on a franchise qb, when we already had a winning formula/roster

Also, how good have we been since we let most of those players go else where and started chasing this franchise qb dream that all of the fans and media claim ever team needs
Who was the qb for 85 bears or 72 Dolphins, even the Ravens winning with Flacco. We had the right focus with Defense now .. we are trash still looking for a franchise qb, hopefully we keep Minshew and focus on getting our D back to where it needs to be.
Cap is fine they can cut some and still resign Yan and some F/A's

Good grief...and we had to let them go
because we signed so many free agents. You can't pay everybody. You sign pieces. You do not build through FA. None of the good teams build through free agency. If you try to build a team through free agency it'll work maybe for a year (sound familiar?)...and if you don't win that year you just [BLEEP] yourself.

This is so irrelevant. You're talking about 35 and 48 years ago. Completely different era with playing style and especially free agency.

The point I was making is that we could have kept all the free agents that we had and continue winning but our FO is terrible, they let most of the players go to chase a Franchise QB doesn't guarantee a suber bowl win and is one of the hardest things to come by. You can win with Free Agents if you do it right. Defense or Offense can win a championship

You know he was benched for all but about 10 plays the last six games last year, right? The Redskins were picking up street free agents rather than putting him back in the starting lineup.
This isn't 2015.
He's basically AJ Bouye.
Just saw that the Browns may be considering trading Enjoku for a Day3 draft pick. I wouldn't mind us giving him a chance here.

Pretty sure he is much worse.

Jefferson would be a good add IMO.

The idea is to improve, not add a guy who's worse than Herndon at this point. And that's actually an accomplishment, being worse than Herndon.

Is there any cornerback with a recognizable name that you don't want? Slay is very good, no question, but he would take a high draft pick to acquire and money we don't have to extend.

Herndon wasn't bad this year. He was actually average to above average which is a great outcome for someone's first year on the outside
