Quote:The screens are because we can't run the ball and Gus wants to run a control the clock team.

Yep, shows you how awful he is that we have a team that could challenge for best offense in the league and he wants them to control the freaking clock. He's putting a boot on his own damn Gus Bus.
Quote:We know what he's capable of and if he could fix his throwing motion last year he can surely fix it again. The real question is if he can consistently not revert back to these bad habits when things break down. I think we really need to be aggressive in the draft and get a franchise back for him.
Do we really know what he is capable of? I'm not so sure. We have seen him pile up stats, quite inefficiently, while trailing games.

We don't just need Blake to get back to what he was last year, we need him to get back to what he was last year and then take an equally large leap forward from that. Until that happens we aren't going anywhere.
Quote:All of the screens and lack of explosive plays tell me that he's injured.
Thats an interesting possibility that I hadn't considered.

We have two perfectly capable backs. I guess you're missing the lineman on their backs and defenders in the backfield as soon as they get the ball.
Quote:He's also behind the best o-line in football.
I know that, my point still stands though. Blake does plenty of dumb stuff even without pressure

Exactly. Even if Bortles plays like he did in 2015, I think that's only enough for 6-7 wins.

If we want to win and be a playoff team consistently, he needs to improve upon his 2015 campaign.
Quote:He'll figure it out eventually. Just needs time. He has to learn how to lose before he learns how to win!

Oh, he knows how to lose.

Quote:Young QB's go through phases.  He has to adjust.

I, for one, am glad to see him show emotion in going off the field PO'd (at himself).

He cares, and that's a good part of the battle.

Yeah, this might be the first step to him getting back to that BEAST we saw come out last year after he'd hit rock bottom in a game. At some point we'll see it, and he'll just start clicking. I don't think there's a defense out there aside from maybe the Broncos that can stop Bortles when he reaches that point and gets in his angry zone.

Quote:Man it would've been nice to draft Dak Prescott huh

You know, all of these rookie qbs are doing well this year. Even our own Brandon Allen looked fantastic this preseason aside from a few early INTs as he gets acquainted to the NFL. I really think Allen might impress if he ever gets the opportunity. By no means do I suggest benching Blake, but if he were to go down, I truly believe Allen gives the Jaguars a real chance to keep it going much like these other rookies have been doing. This just happens to have been an incredible draft class for qbs, and we got one of them in round six. If Henne ever does start a game due to injury, I hope it doesn't take long for him to get benched.

Exactly.

I considered if perhaps his arm is going limp like it did near the end of his rookie season, but the signs of that were much more obvious. He looked like Peyton last year unable to even get the ball downfield. In this last game, he overthrew Marqise on a deep pass. So that's not it.

Now it has been a while since Tom House perfected his throwing motion.

What we need for the running game is to have Linder and Ivory healthy and playing together.

The best way I could critique Gus is that he has a total lack of self awareness as a football head coach.

I don't doubt the mans passion for his job but it seems he set his mind on this "Seattle south" thing and nothing was going to change his opinion on that.

So yeah that's how Gus will be remembered by me. Good man, unique personality but ultimately had no self awareness as a coach.

Probably why Jim Schwartz didn't come here.

I wish I could see the picture of Jim Schwartz's face when Gus asked him will he run the Seattle scheme for him.
Martineau, on 1010 yesterday was pondering the idea that BB5's respect and admiration for Gus and the possibility that he will feel responsible for his firing if or when it happens may be weighing on him heavily and leading to tight play. Think about it, you know Blake has met all his family, hung with them and will hate to see him fired. He will feel responsible and that is a lot of pressure on top of all the normal pressures of his job.. I don't know if this is the case but it makes some sense. I would hope that Gus, Khan, Caldwell have attempted to remove this train of thought if it indeed does exist. I just don't know that it's possible.
Blake needs to throw he ball down field and hit the wide open receivers.. if he can't do that.. NEXT Quarterback please!!!!! There's no Bortles love from me until he takes us to the playoffs.. Show out or get out loser. Bortles looks more and more like Tim Couch each and every week.... An occasional good game followed by 4 bad ones that end our year.  It's just not acceptable anymore... Something has to give.... Maybe it is Henne time. Wallbash

Congratulations sir, you have won the second most ignorant post of the day award. Please watch your mailbox for prize.

While I understand your sentiment (Henne sucks), I don't really see how Henne can do much worse than Bortles right now. Blake has 7 turnovers and 5 touchdowns in 3 games. Not to mention the 9 sacks that he has and many of them being his own fault. Blake is taking us out of games with his terrible decisions. We're currently 0-3. If he keeps playing like this it will give me a "what is there to lose" attitude with him and want him to be benched. No different than the people calling for Gus to be fired and Marrone to fill in.
It's weird how he came out of the gate with reverted, poor mechanics. Typically wouldn't this happen towards the end of the season? I know he didn't spend as much time with Tom House this off season, like after his rookie year, but it's odd for sure how this is happening so early in the year.

I don't think it's all that weird.

Blake clearly puts a lot of pressure on himself to perform at a high level, mostly out of necessity because he generally has to perform at a regularly high level for us to succeed. I can't help but think he might be trying to shoulder too much of the burden and he's buckling under the weight of said burden right now. So we have a pressure + uncertainty = regression formula at work. I think it's entirely natural to revert to old [bad] habits when you don't know what else to do.

He needs to calm down, stop panicking/pressing and trust his teammates and coaches to do their jobs. He isn't Atlas, nor should he have to be, but right that's what seems to be stuck in his psyche.
