Agent: "Hey kid, I got us an offer. It's from the Jaguars."
Player: "The Jaguars? Didn't they draft a bunch of DBs? I don't wanna go there."
Agent: "Lemme ask you, do you enjoy being able to eat? Because if you do, it's either go to camp with the Jaguars or start your exciting career in insurance sales."

Yeah, pretty much.  It's also a method to showcase your talents to the rest of the NFL if you're still around at preseason.  With 12 drafted players, not everyone's going to make the team.

I like the idea of the Jags taking their pick from a pool of a dozen instead of half a dozen.  Does seem like we're going after the position with a shotgun.  Maybe that's what's required this year.

These dudes ain't gonna make the team. That's why they weren't even drafted.

Wrong, says Keelan Cole, Tyler Shatley, Donnell Greene, Tre Herndon, KC McDermott and others.  Usually 2-3 make the roster (more if counting the practice squad) each year.

Reed will make the team and become our future starter a FS.  I also think he becomes one of the better safties from this class

Need to save that for the locker room.

I don't see any difference in 6th and 7th round guys and UDFAs other than roll of the dice.
A lot of us thought that last year, Minshew was not even going to make the team after the preseason
I like that we're adding Reed and the RBs as UDfAs. Seems like there's always a late round/UDFA RB who does work every year.

Gruden may believe a new offensive scheme will fix our offensive line woes.

Sometimes I wonder if you pay attention, or if you just start talking and see if anyone agrees with you.

The 7th round guys in particular are just the UDFAs you don't feel like competing for.

Negative. Was one of the few during preseason last year that wanted to see him play with the starters after he showed toughness and willingness to stand in the pocket behind really bad pass protection and make tough throws while being blasted several times.

I liked Minshew coming out of college. I think it was great they drafted another QB late but they got the wrong guy. McDonald or Montez would have been better suited with this offensive line. Especially McDonald with his wheels.
Marvelle Ross, WR/KR, Notre Dame

This kid will be a dynamic playmaker. Travis Benjamin 2.0 (New and Improved)

He'll be competing against 7th round pick Chris Claybrooks for a return specialist spot.  Given that they drafted Claybrooks, and risked Ross being signed by another team, I would presume Claybrooks to have the slight edge going into virtual camp.

I'm guessing they'll be given numbers on jerseys, and referred to by number until (and maybe after) they make the team.

Talent, ability, and character are gonna make coaches forget draft order on day 1.  Hopefully, that goes for everyone.

Maybe the Jags already had a free agent commitment from Ross before they picked.

6th and 7th round picks (and a lot of 5ths as well) are taken so you are guaranteed to have first look at them, so you don't lose them to another team in UDFA or draft before you get a chance to kick the tires first.
Was checking out The East West Shrine Game on youtube- at about 1:55 James Robinson breaks for a long TD. Great to see that from him, but you see Shaq Quarterman get sealed pretty bad allowing the big run, and you also see the undrafted TE Ben Ellefson putting in some good work on the play. Pretty cool- I suggest everyone who hasn't seen it go check that out. Barcoo making some plays too that game. Shaq was in on some good plays and looked decent in coverage too, tho.

It really doesn't make sense for a UDFA DB to sign with the Jags. I guess they are hoping that they can beat out the 4 drafted players for a spot.

It can make sense.  NFL teams typically keep 10 DB's and that's not counting the practice squad.  That's a lot of positions and we went into the draft without much depth.  Keep in mind that one of those 4 draft picks is a seventh rounder.  Being taken in the seventh round isn't a particularly secure place to be.  Injuries can also always open up additional spots.  The Jaguars are also a rebuilding team, so if it's close, they might give the edge to youth over a veteran.

FWIW, CBS Sports had Reed rated as the 114th best player going into the draft.  That equates to an early 4th rounder.
