Let's calm down a bit and gain some perspective. Was Fournette worth $4M+ this year to be a power back in a West Coast system?

I think Armstead and Ozigbo are ready to step up.

I think they're clearing dead weight for next year for Gardner or Trevor to make a run.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't we paying Fournette $4M this year - even after cutting him?  If we're paying the $$ no matter what, why not keep him - even in a reduced roll.....

I think folks are reacting more to the release than what it actually means. Granted, the timing is odd and since it happened on the heels of Ngakoue hitting the door they're a little bitter.

I'm with you, it's not a real big deal.

Maybe... just maybe... they thought Fournette sucked... like a lot of us do.

Since we are so close to the season, I am just hoping they prove my gut wrong.  It looks like a complete disaster to me right now.  Unfortunately the time for change has long since passed.

We are all on the roller coaster at this point, hopefully the strung out carny that put it together knew what he was doing.

I agree that it's not a big deal - and it doesn't make us appreciably better or worse......but why cut him now?  If Armstead is in fact better - why didn't they see it last year when Fournette carried the ball 250+ times and caught another 70+ while Armstead got mop-up duty?  Do they truly expect us to believe that in a Covid training camp that they were able to determine that Fournette was all of a sudden worse than last year and worse than Armstead?  If that's the case than the OP's point is valid - Kahn and Caldwell are just bad and Marrone is right there with them.

I mean Ngakoue turned down 3 years at $19M per year (reported) and I know it was supposedly all Coughlin's fault - but Coughlin is gone and Ngakoue still forced a trade where he reworked his contract to play for $12M elsewhere instead of signing and playing here for $17.8M?  What's that say about our Owner, Front Office and Coach?

Again, the timing is odd and is most likely attributable to a locker room cause. Just pure speculation on my part, but it's possible Fournette was part of a clique that soured on Coughlin and carried their hate over to the FO. Perhaps the FO thought with Ngakoue gone things would simmer down and Fournette sounded off with some mutinous tones during the Saturday scrimmage.

We don't know and frankly it doesn't matter at this point. He's gone. It's time to look forward to what I believe will be a better season than most expect.

It's conditioned into us through the constant losing.

Fournette also openly campaigned for the team to sign Cam Newton.
It's just not a good look.
There were reports since the draft that the team was trying to move Fournette. While the straight release was a little surprising, it didn't floor me.

I was more surprised by the team taking a 2nd and 5th (likely to be a 4th, I'd guess) with both picks likely to be in the 20's at best in those rounds for Yan.
But they figured get something now rather than do the tag dance again next year.
The Yan move was known about and while they would have liked a first it's obvious they weren't getting that. So then they ran the risk of Yan sitting and going through the distraction again next year. Or possibly getting nothing in return from him if he played this year and then walked anyway.

The fact that some fans and media types are losing their minds over the release of LF is funny to me. But the LF release is a move made because he isn't a WC scheme back. He wasn't an elite RB talent. And he did very little to be a "Team first" guy. The team is shaping the roster as it needs to be for the future.

The same fans and media that knew, with or without Yan and/or LF, that this wasn't going to be a great season in terms of wins and losses are now up in arms about the team sucking. And in the same thought, these are the same fans that want to tank for Trevor.

Hell... it even made Ryan Day come out of his basement to post 3 different ranting articles on BCC.  Laughing
Been a while since one of your classic threads popped up. Can we at least lose the first game first?
I tried to stay positive this offseason, but between losing the last of our 2017 talent, and COVID affecting so much, it's hard to see how the Jags do anything but compete for the 1 pick of the draft this year.

Can't wait for another implosion of the FO, coaching staff, and Operation Clean Slate 5.0
Caldwell is a better GM than Gene was, but Caldwell getting 8 drafts (and counting) has been more damaging to the franchise than Gene was.

I think the damage is in the coaching not the talent acquisition. Yes, the GM has a role in that too, but if you give any one of 20 different NFL coaches the rosters Caldwell gave Bobblehead and Ya'know'I'msayin' you probably have 4 or 5 years of playoff teams instead of the cluster we've had.

Still, I favor firing them all...

Agreed.  If there is nothing to be optimistic about after this season, a house-cleaning is in order.  Get a new GM, new coach, new QB (unless Minshew plays out of his mind this year) and do it right here for a change.

Agreed but has this team given the fans reasons to cheer?  Most of the time it's just frustration and anger.

Exactly.  Caldwell has done more long term damage.

It will be arbitrated. The  Jags previously waived all his guaranteed monies as allowed by contract because of his suspension. As of right now I do not believe they owe him squat.

I don't remember there being a ruling on the Jags voiding his guaranteed money for this season. Right now the Jags are saying they owe him nothing and he says the team owes him his $4-5 million no matter what. If it was already decided, it does make sense to keep him as they could have to pay him no matter what. The only reason to cut him would be for the locker room.
The only thing that makes sense is if he was a locker room distraction. It maybe one of those things that are kept in-house. Then again this brass makes bad decisions so who knows.
