In the case we need a new coach in 2017 I put together a list.
College Coaches:
1. Jim Mora
2. David Shaw
3. Les Miles
4. Kevin Sumlin
NFL Coaches:
1. Sean Payton
2. Mike Shula
These are my top 6 Coaching Candidates. Payton would be my #1.
I would add Todd Haley, Sean McDermott, and Matt Patricia, Josh McDaniels.
Right now, Todd Haley is my favorite.
I'd be okay with Todd Haley. Not sure he would want to leave Pittsburgh though

He has local ties to Jacksonville. He went to and coached at UNF and has said he loves Jacksonville. Also his parents live in Sanford.
Not to mention I am sure he would love another shot at being a HC.

Huh I wasn't aware of that! Yeah Ihis tenure in Kansas City didn't go very well ha
Todd Haley would be a good possibility.
His offenses have been above average in Pittsburgh in scoring.
His worst year was his first year there (2013) where they were 16th in the league with 23.7 PPG.
The next year they went up to 7th with 26.6 PPG. In 2015 they were again 7th with 25.4 PPG. This year they are 4th with 31 PPG.
In comparison Olson had us at 14th last year with 23.5 and so far this year we are 25th with 18.5.

The Offensive Skill player talent, young Defensive talent, and the opportunity to have another HC opportunity would at the very least be tempting for Todd Haley or the vast majority of other HC candidates. Especially, with an ownership that's willing to spend money on and off the field as it relates to the Jaguars.
I want to look more into potential coaching candidates, but I don't want to fall into the traditional "let's hire the hottest young Coordinator out there" concept because I'm not certain that it guarantees long term success. I couldn't care less if the guy has a great grasp of the passing game or can draw up seven man Blitzes in his sleep, I want a guy who knows how to organize a staff, prepare a roster, and set a standard for exceptional performance throughout the organization.
To wit, Romeo Crennel, Charlie Weiss (sp?), and Josh McDaniels all were Belichick "coaching tree candidates". Meanwhile, Andy Reid who has won six Division titles and has been to the Playoffs 11 years out of the past 16. Reid was never a coordinator prior to being a Head Coach.

I prefer to look for head coaching who have had the experience of leading teams, another name to look at if he gets let go is John Harbaugh.
I Looked for previous HCs who have had championship level success. Payton, Harbaugh, Mora all have had success in the NFL, and then look at championship level college HCs like Les Miles, David Shaw and then the Homegrown Mike Shula who has blossomed in Carolina as my new hot coordinator.
I keep wondering if Dom Capers might be up for a comeback attempt as a HC.
In order
Coughlin
McDaniels
Norv Turner
Todd Haley
This should be Khans list.
If there is mutual interest, I really feel like it has to be Coughlin. It is a win/win. We get a disciplinarian these players desperately need AND it would being old school Jag fans back into the mix.
I'd offer Tom Coughlin whatever he needs to be the coach.
If that don't work, I would reach out to Manning.
Dont really want another guy with no HC exp.
coughlin, haley, mcdermott my top choices in order.
Detroit's situation could be interesting, especially with a former NE guy as the HC. If Caldwell is fired then I could see their GM going after McDaniels or Patricia. Another guy who could be a hot name is Jim Bob Cooter, who has done wonders for the Lions' offense.
An awesome scenario for Jax would be hiring Matt Patricia and bringing in Jim Bob to be the OC, if the Detroit coaching staff is relieved at the end of the season.
D6, what is your thoughts on JBC?
Saints' fan seem to be wanting Payton fired. We should be all over that guy if he is let go.

HolsterHusto, great post! You definitely have a good feel for what's going on.
I think JBC is an excellent Offensive Coordinator, who also is a highly skilled QB Coach. JBC is the greatest difference for Matthew Stafford improvement in his last 11 games and the Lions Offensive Line having many less mental breakdowns compared to when Joe Lombardi was OC. JBC provides a very good combination of attention to detail, creativity, and not making the blocking assignments overall complex. Stafford thinks very highly of JBC.
It's interesting what you mentioned as a scenario for the Jaguars, as it's basically what I hinted at with the Lions in another thread when mentioning that I believe Matt Patricia will likely be an NFL HC in 2017. The combination of Patricia and Cooter is definitely something I would be totally comfortable with if Jim Caldwell is let go. If Caldwell is let go and the Lions let Cooter move on, IMO he would be an excellent choice for the Jaguars as OC. JBC will probably be an NFL HC sometime in the next few seasons.
