I heard FBT applyed to be the new GM. i bet he would do a much better job then any past GMS jags have had,no offensse intended to anyone else of course
He let Caldwell go as they need to get the search started for more than a few reasons.
1. There are already 3 other teams looking.
2. The new guy will need to come in and evaluate EVERYONE to determine a go forward plan. This plan will be multi year with personnel not available this year but maybe next.
3. We have a ton of draft picks and cap room. The scouting team MUST be put in place quickly. This includes not only scouting for the draft, but free agents and cap casualties from other teams.

Also, by keeping the current coaching staff the new GM is in a position to keep or release any currently on staff according to his evaluation. I have the feeling our owner has grown weary of all the excuses and losing. This guy will be held accountable and expected to hold his employees accountable.

That being said, are you implying we hire someone in-season this year?

He has always been good at managing the cap.  The issue has always been acquiring talent.  He flat out sucks overall, especially in the early rounds.

Why?  They are doing a fine job at losing.

If you find your man in-season then yes, But I can't see them finding him in season.

Canning Caldwell first quiets the fanbase and ensures changes are being made by year end. No other move needs to be made right now.

There is almost zero chance of this happening. This whole franchise needs an overhaul, and keeping the head coach is not an ideal way to do that.

You won't find your guy until the season ends unless you hire someone who is not currenting working in a front office.  Teams won't let staff interview until their season ends (or perhaps during a bye week).  I'm sure we would have all our candidates targeted in the next month and set up to interview the first week of January (or after a team's playoff season).  It should be an interesting month and a half!
If Caldwell had hit with a QB ... this situation would be radically different.

(Raises glass of Jack)

Here's to another rebuild.

Caldwell was himself hired in the playoffs, albeit during Atlanta's bye.

Agree 100%, Caldwell never got ‘the man’ so he got the the can instead. Minshew was his last chance and while he looks better than anything we had under Caldwell, he isn’t a clear cut franchise guy Caldwell needed to save his job. I still think Caldwell isn’t a bad GM, but when your team loses as much as his has, it’s not surprising that he was fired.

That said I am shocked that Marrone is still here when they fired Caldwell.
Knew this was coming for a while.

Baalke stepping in as interim GM and Marrone will be gone by the end of the year.

Out of the teams currently in the hunt for a new GM, ours is likely the most lucrative with a combination of salary cap, draft picks, and youth.
O guess khan finally got a chance to look at the players our defense were running out there.

That totally falls on the GM.

WE Understand that injuries occur and it's supposed to be next man up, but for us the next man up was atrocious. We had borderline decent players starting, and then below average backups. You can't win like that.
Can we at least win one more game? Would all of you that want the jags to lose for a better draft postion be ok if we won one more game? The jets arent going to win so stop dreaming about the first pick.

Why? Does ending the season at 2-14, or 3-13, really make us look any better in the big picture of things, over ending at 1-15? Honestly?

Hell no it doesn't... All it does is possibly risk our top draft pick. 1 win, or 3 wins... We're trash regardless so why risk it.

I beg to differ on not winning another game and I'm sure that the players and coaches will want to win another game as well. Sitting within TIAA Bank Field while the team continues to lose isn't a good feeling to say the least.

All due respect, y'all need to stop whining about jaguars not winning games let them lose as many games as possible because we're not going anywhere anyway so let's secure our draft pick.
For months, if not years, I have felt my hope for the future of this team slowly drain out of me, replaced by growing apathy.

Now, for the first time in a long time, I have hope for the future of this team.

At last, at long long last, Khan is acting like he's actually interested in our results on the field.
