Blake has the keys to the vette.. he's just choosing to drive the Pinto.

Coaching and play calling is why we are

0-2

Lamar Jackson LETS GO!!!

Edit: One more year til NFL, nvm.

Is Olsen trying to run a kids version of Belichick/Brady?  They do screens and short passes, but they do it the right way.  They don't force ANYTHING.  They look at the coverage, and take what they are given.  This stat is shocking, but not surprising after seeing the last two games.  Stick to what your team is good at!  No wonder Blake was raging on the sideline.

If they keep playing this way, hopefully the entire team is raging on the sideline. I think even the players finally know they have the talent to do something special.
not a solid plan

Quote:This is according to Ryan O, obviously this doesn't come as surprise if you've watched the first two games. My question is, whats with all of the screens and short passes? This offenses strength is clearly the vertical passing game, why are we all of sudden turning into a "dink and dunk" type of offense? It's inexplicable and unexplainable, we finally established an "identity" on offense last year and now we're moving away from that identity, it's just confusing. I saw a Baltimore Ravens secondary get torched by Josh McCown and Corey Colmean last week, if the Jags don't come out firing multiple shots downfield against a sub-par Ravens secondary on Sunday I'm going to lose it.
I'm glad you raised this issue.

I shudder to think that perhaps Bortles has gone gunshy, though I don't think that is it.

Hurns and Robinson can still get deep, and we've seen Thomas show himself capable of some intermediate to big gains.

What I believe the excess of short, dump off passes shows is a lack of faith in the offensive line to adequately protect Bortles.

Beachum is fresh off of a torn ACL.  Joeckel has slid down inside to LG, but has shown some troubling tendencies.  Him getting bull rushed by Ingram-a guy he outweighs by at least 30 pounds- was sad.  Unfortunately, with Beachum's head injury last week, we may be seeing more of the short stuff in the foreseeable future.
The Jaguars are the Bubble Screen Team, the bubble screen team.

Feeling low, scared for the Quarterback to do a deep throw? BUBBLE SCREEN TEAM!!

Running game is not, and the coaches are scared and not feeling hot? BUBBLE SCREEN TEAM!!

The bubble screen team, the bubble screen team, the Jaguars are the bubble screen team!!!

Greg Olsen is an idiot. Don't try and fix something if it isn't broke.

Going vertical is in Year 6 of the Rebuild Plan -- be patient.

Hey, serious question here:

Does anyone else feel like Olsen is trying to redeem himself with the bubble screen calls in week 2, since it failed 1st game and everyone questioned the play call? I swear last game I was watching all the screens and saying that he was attempting to make it work, so that he could absolve himself and claim that the bubble screen works.

Ultimately, every year you have to do something different and adjust because the rest of the nfl will adjust. But, yeah, bubble screens and throws behind the LOS are not the way to do it. All you're doing is causing the defense to play closer to the LOS, and then you're not attacking the deep parts of the field to make them pay.
Quote:Teams have figured the Blake to Robinson jump ball out. It worked for mega yards last season but may have lulled us into complacency.

Dalton and AJ Green do this all of the time.  Are you telling me other teams haven't figured that out yet or do they do it because other teams just can't stop it 1 on 1.

As long as AR15 is covered 1 on 1 we need to keep doing it.

I'm sold on Blake honestly. But I can tell bad coaching when I see it. Last year we had 5-7 jump balls a game. I'm seeing 10-15 screens a game. We didn't run this many screens all year last year.
Quote:This gets back to lack of a running game. Long routes take time to develop. Time that must be earned though threat of a run game. Without it, it is ears pinned back rushes/blitzes constantly not allowing the time required.
This, if you cant run the ball, then its nothing open down field and you have to throw the ball fast since everybody is stacked at the box
Blaine Bottles is bad footbaw player. Put in Chuck Hennessey!
Our offense must have been too exciting. This is ridiculously frustrating. I thought they said use what works.

I don't find these numbers overwhelming, but I would like to see a more aggressive game plan.

I wonder if Olson is trying to diminish Bortles' current bout with accuracy issues with all this short stuff.

That certainly is one of the possibilities.

It could be:

- current accuracy issues deep for BB

- using short passes as a substitute for a struggling rushing attack

- protection issues with the re-shuffled O-line (not enough protection time for a lot of deep stuff)

Man, this O-line is not near what it needs to be. I know Caldwell has put a lot of focus on the O-line the past few years with draftees and FAs in/out of the picture. But, it still has a long way to go.

To this point, last season's O-line looked better than what we're seeing so far this season, IMO.

Linder was a rock-solid Guard. He's now moved to Center.

Joeckel looks completely terrible at Guard. He at least was decent in quite a few games last year at LT.

Beadles was a better LG than Joeckel (as hard as it is to believe).

Wiz was a lot more experienced "mentally" than Linder at Center. Linder is still learning.

Parnell was a backup O-lineman at Dallas. We all thought that it was because Dallas was just stacked there. But, maybe Parnell was a backup for a reason. His play has let me down already this year (IMO). He looked awful against Ingram last week.

Maybe the O-line will start to gel, and look much better later in the season. But right now, last season's lineup was better (PUKE, I know).

Frustrating the fans seems to be what's working.
