I think it's because the lack of options for NFL games to watch. Unless you're in the small percentage of people with Sunday Ticket you're stuck watching whatever game your region chooses.
I hardly ever watch anymore. Just the Jags and now that they are 0-3 and basically already eliminated from the playoffs I might choose to do something outdoors on Sundays.

I will probably still watch most of the Jags games, but I am not going to schedule time to do it like I have for the last few decades. I started losing interest early last year. Seems like the same thing happens every year. Same teams win, same teams lose.
Quote:Politics affecting the views in my circle.

No doubt about it. Having the first presidential debate on a Monday night obviously hurt the Falcons/Saints ratings.
What I am seeing here is people not wanting to be Jaguars fans anymore - if they ever really were since we became perennial losers. If you like the Jaguars, you watch every game you can.

For me, I only watch Jaguars games live on TV (or in the stadium).  The rest of the time I tend to watch the NFL Redzone channel since it keeps up with all games being played and has no commercials.  I rarely watch SNF, MNF or TNF mainly because of my work schedule.  I'll take October 28th off from work since the Jaguars are on TNF the night before.

There is also the political side of things when it comes to the "protests" during the National Anthem.  I have had several co-workers say that they stopped watching after the first "protest" and will just wait to see the results of games the next day.  How true that is... I don't know, but then again, most of the people that I work with are more interested on college football rather than the NFL and are more "casual fans".

Quote:The 29 combined accepted penalties (there were some that were declined as well) in the Lions loss to Tennessee certainly isn't going to help increase viewership if this game is a remotely close to a reflection of the consensus NFL game played on Sunday. If Brad Allen and his crew are the officials in any game you see in the future,  it's best to prepare for a penalty feast.

This reminds me of a Ravens/Lions game several years ago. I did not watch it, but read there was a ridiculous number of penalties against the Ravens including two ejections.
The nfl is just really bad right now. Theres so many terrible teams it feels like, barely anyone feels like a real contender to do anything besides the Pats, Denver, and Minnesota.

You forgot about the 3-0 Eagles and several other teams. Check out the division standings:

The eagles arent actually good enough to beat the Pats or denver at all. They only have one good win over Pittsburg the other two were bottom 5 teams. Same with the ravens but they dont even have a win over a good team just 3 straight bad teams.

That does not make the Eagles a bad team as you implied earlier.
Quote:In my opinion, over-saturation, poor reffing, bad games, politics play a major role in the NFL losing viewership.

I also think that one-sided reffing is removing parity from the game and below average teams aren't getting fair shakes to succeed.

As much as I dislike that weaselly little [BAD WORD REMOVED] Mark Cuban, he kind of predicted this a couple years ago.
The over emphasis of a back up qb getting all the attention because he chose to kneel while the national anthem is a prime example. The cameras get right up on him and now anyone that does it. Honestly I don't want to see that crap and they keep zooming in on it.

I'm with you. This year was the first time in a long time I was excited about the team. The beating in SAN Diego changed that fast. This team has made me lose interest in football all together. Even in fantasy football I couldn't care less anymore. I've lost a lot of the love for the game due to crap refs, one sided reffing and the politics. Just over it all.
I've had a hard time getting into watching other games besides the jags this year. Heck, this is also the first time in about 8 years that I have not even drafted a fantasy team. I used to get into it a lot and this year I didn't even care to make one. I can't tell you why I am not as motivated for fantasy or to watch other games than the jags. I can get into most of the prime time games. But I don't bother staying up to watch the whole game most of the time.

I only stay in my fantasy league due to the fact I've been in it for like 15 years now.

I barely check it this year.

Same. My fantasy league is run by my cousin. I am only in it because it's family. He forgot to run the draft this year and the league didn't take. I was so relieved.
The constant barrage of advertising for the gambling sites has pretty much ruined all of sports for me. I'm sick of Fanduel, Draft Kings and all those other schleps hollering at me on the radio and tv.

That is getting old. Not to mention, if I can't play poker online then how the hell can I play fantasy football for money?

Another thing, the color rush crap...really? Am I supposed to tune in because their uniforms look hideous? Stupid gimmick.
I like the team logo bud light cans. Although, for the jags, they may wanna do something a little stronger. How about Jaguars Absinthe.
This game is a shining example of why ratings are down.
Blowhole!
