I'm pretty sure you're just being sarcastic. But, despite the jags sucking, that's the one game I have no issues watching at all.

I barely check it this year.
The idea of those leagues seem like it would have been fun for me years ago. I've never been in one though. What happens in your case if you decide you don't want to do it anymore? Do they find a new "owner"? Or do the remaining owners that keep up with it just get better through the years?

A few reasons from my perspective (I'm sure some of already been said:
1. Too political. I hate when politics mix with sports. I don't want to constantly hear about these athletes (failed) attempts to change society.
2. You can only watch regional games. People are fans from teams across the country.
3. Oversaturation. Take away those stupid Thursday games. Make Sunday THE day. Most of the matchups are garbage anyway.

I really think the ref bias is a problem... the rule changes as well are watering down the game... But I'm beginning to not really care to watch any other games besides my Jaguars because it's hard to watch with all the flags and sissy-fied rules.
I was never a big college ball fan, but I'm actually watching more college ball on Saturday then I do other teams besides the Jaguars on Sunday.

Agree. Thursday games (especially EVERY SINGLE WEEK) are a pain in the rear.
-The match-ups usually suck.
-The home team has a HUGE advantage due to the visitors having to travel on an extremely short week's preparation.
- The extremely short week to prepare could cause a team that is in playoff contention to slip up and lose, which could be very important to their win-loss ratio and playoff chances.
- The short week also causes lots of players to miss the game if they got banged up/injured on the previous Sunday. There's not enough time to recover their bodies.
Anyway,,
I hate Thursday games.
I guess there is one positive though:
A Thursday night game gives teams that never have any chance to play in the national "spotlight" on prime time at least ONE time for the nation to see them.
Otherwise, they'd NEVER be on national spots (**cough cough** Jags, Browns, Titans, etc)

Seriously, Thursday games should be for Thanksgiving, and that's it!
The product on the field on Thursday nights is terrible.

Quote:This reminds me of a Ravens/Lions game several years ago. I did not watch it, but read there was a ridiculous number of penalties against the Ravens including two ejections.
I haven't thought about that game in a long time. The game was in Detroit back in 2005 and it was the only time in 4 regular season games that the Lions have beaten the Ravens. The Ravens became unhinged that day and it raised the question whether Brian Billick was the answer moving forward as Ravens HC. Billick ended up lasting another couple of seasons in that role.
The Lions game the week before the Ravens game relates to the theme of this thread as well. In one of the very few times during Joey Harrington's playing career with the Lions, he appeared to come through with a likely eventual game winning TD pass. ( Greg Olson was the Lions QB coach at the time ) This one was to TE Marcus Pollard with less than a minute in the game. Amazingly, Referee Gerry Austin reversed the call, saying basically that Pollard didn't have control of the ball inbounds. This despite the fact that there WASN'T indisputable evidence to reverse the call. No wonder why Jon Gruden and Gerry Austin get along so well in the MNF TV booth!
Calls like that one, the reversal of Calvin Johnson's TD in the 2010 opener in Chicago that likely cost the Lions a win, the officials deciding not to call pass interference against Cowboys LB Anthony Hitchens ( vs. Brandon Pettigrew ) in a playoff game less than two years ago ( after the flag was thrown ), and the officials missing the illegal batted ball ( after Calvin Johnson fumbled at the Seahawks 1 yard line ) out of the end zone in Seattle by LB K.J. Wright last season have greatly adversely affected my enjoyment of the NFL. Though I still watch more games than most people in the regular season, I used to watch even more games. Plus, I cut down my pre-season viewership of NFL games considerably.

Speaking of bad calls against the Lions, I still remember an early season matchup against the Vikings from several seasons back. A very questionable pass interference call against Detroit put the Vikings inside the Detroit 30 late in the game, the Vikes ended up hitting a chip shot field goal to win. The only reason I remember it was because that game happened in 2008, the year the Lions went winless. Without that call, there very likely is no 0-16 team.

Absolutely, empty.
Leigh Bodden was the CB called for pass interference on that play. That shouldn't have been P.I. If not for the automatic first down and huge change in field position, the Vikings would have been dealing with 3rd and 20 a sizeable ways away from the even the 50 yard line.
If the NFL had Full Time Officials, it would be easier to accept bad calls. Because the NFL continues to use Part Time officials despite being a multi-multi billion dollar industry, they put the credibility of the league in danger. Which can lead to people finding other things to do instead of spending time watching, listening, and/ or following the NFL. The fact that Bruce Arians, who most NFL fans including myself consider an elite NFL HC, has called for full time officials, strongly reinforces my position.

It has been touched on, but:
Saturation. Get rid of the Thursday game.
Quality. Rules are watering down the game and making it basketball on grass. The quality of the teams appears down.
Refs. The referee quality has dropped tremendously. It has also gotten to the point where games are decided based on their calls.
Parity. This illusion is fading for some reason. There are clearly a group of teams that always remain at the top.
Really this could just be attributed to me slowly loosing interest because of the crappy team I support.

I'll check in and out with the game or something else. But for me it's mostly just being too damn tired to stay up and a watch a late game. I get up at 4:00 AM. I am usually passing out around 9:30 PM - 10:00 PM.

The Calvin Johnson non-touchdown you are referring to prompted me to start a thread about the definition of a catch. I will never understand why the rule named after him was just a clarification, not a change to call such plays completed passes.
You probably don't want to think about it, but the Lions would have won if Calvin Johnson crossed the goal line without fumbling. He just needed to hold onto the ball a couple more seconds and dropped it on his own. Getting a free first down there would not guarantee anything.
I can't remember the opponent, but at another game in Detroit Gerry Austin, who was in the booth, criticized the officials for not calling DPI on a Lions player who grabbed a receiver's arm.

Games aren't as exciting as they use to be, and there are a ton of reasons as to why. Mainly the rule changes have watered the game down to the point where you can't see players show off all of their talents. It was fun watching DB's battle with WR's and roughing each other up. It was exciting to watch the big hits and the violent players - and while I agree with the concern for head injuries, there are a ton of penalties when it's clear the player used his shoulder, but it's still a 15 yard penalty. There is so much hype for the Norman vs OBJ match ups because people know it will get physical. Players are way too friendly nowadays, and there is rarely any beef with divisional opponents. The NFL won't allow teams to celebrate after scoring, and those are the best parts of the entire game. They completely kill the mood by penalizing your team for having fun, and in return, it's a buzzkill for NFL fans.
NFL Officials are not held accountable for their terrible calls, and most of the time they're game deciding. I think the NFL needs to invest in getting new officials, and get them properly trained. And for the love of God, you should be allowed to review penalties. Nothing is more infuriating than watching your team get called for holding (example), when it's clear the player never did. Patriots, Broncos, Packers, and Seahawks have owned the NFL for awhile now, and it gets boring. Where is the talent on other teams? There is a lack of it for some reason.

Another thing that I think hurts the NFL experience is the amount of commercials. I know that's not changing since that's their $$ but you almost have to have something else to watch during an NFL game.
Good example is just now there were 3 seconds left after a change of possession, they go to commercial, come back run 1 play, and go to another commercial.

Quote:the protest takes place before the game so this is all irrelevant to your viewing experienceThat makes no sense. You are just trying to justify what they areally doing. I don't want to hear about how oppressed they are, and btw, the NFL has shown the national anthem this year just to show who is or isn't kneeling. Do some research.
A ROB last week put his hands up after his TD. They don't show it?
