Ramsey was one of my favorite players, but he did not want to be here. Its definitely true that nothing that is going on now would be if the trade didn't happen. So, it would have changed the entire time line.. "back to the future" reference or star trek. Take your pick. I think the jags won this in the long run with all things considered

2020
EDGE K'Lavon Chaisson, LSU
2021
RB Travis Etienne, Clemson
It is probably too early to say, but it does seem we lost out on the deal. I thought the Rams would have ended up with more loses so more value from the trade but it sure seems like we didn't get much out of the trade.
Looking solely at the players we got in direct consideration for trading away Ramsey, I have to give the edge to the Rams.
The Rams got an All Pro at a premium position. His so called attitude problems did not preclude them from having a top tier defense. It didn't preclude them from reaching the playoffs. It didn't preclude them from re-signing him to a long term deal.
The Jaguars got a cuy in Chaisson who is looking like a bust after one year, and who we're hoping a change in scheme makes him more productive, and Travis Etienne, a good player that most people here did not want at 25. We traded them back the 4th round pick they sent to us to get Smith from UAB.
Definite edge to the Rams when looking solely at the direct compensation.
But as others have observed, trading away Ramsey played a key role in us being able to draft Trevor Lawrence. If Lawrence turns out to be as good as advertised, then that helps to tip the balance more to the Jaguars benefit.
I can't wait to see what Etienne does! I think he will be worth it, without considering if Chaisson improves. We get rid of an obnoxious person in Ramsey. And it put us in position to get TLaw. Win, win, win.

I agree.
I still question the Etienne pick, but being optimistic, Im very exited to see what he could do. If it all plays out the way we want it to, it’s a win. I also believe that Chaisson will further improve this season.
In a vaccum Ramsey is WAY more valuable than Chaisson and Etienne. Like orders of magnitude more valuable.
In context, considering Ramsey being childish, his contract, and it being so lopsided that we were bad enough to get Tlaw. Well it's hard to be disappointed in the ultimate outcome.

Facts! Dude is a clown.
Jags with the highway robbery
Getting rid of Ramsey led to the #1 overall so include that in there and we totally fleeced them
Jags won! Too early to tell on our talent return, but i'm optimistic. Getting rid of an expensive, self-centered whiner who's salary would have cost multiple players to be here? Happy Trails pal! Oh wait, you add Trevor to the equation? Thank you Rams!!!!!!
In medical circles, having a malignant cancer removed safely and completely would be seen as a win almost regardless of cost. That we got some significant return for the operation makes it a definite win for the Jaguars. Doesn't mean it isn't a win for the Rams too.
Hopefully Walker lives up to his potential and we win the Yan trade too
Regardless of his attitude it was a big fat L in terms of the actual trade itself. If you assume him being here meant we wouldn't get Lawrence than it changes a little bit but i'm not so sure he would have won us any more games last year.

this is complete money. I agree with this take to a 'T'.

I would 100% trade 2 first round picks for him, but only under the circumstance that he wanted to be here and lost the attitude so I guess what i'm saying is yes i'd trade 2 first round picks to GB for Jairie Alexander.

i wouldn't. we dont need any more CB's and you'd kill 2 drafts with TLaw at the helm by doing this. This would be the worst trade in franchise history when it comes to timing.
Hopefully Chaisson excels at OLB in a 3-4 and Etienne eventually proves he wasn't overdrafted at 25.
I'll wait to judge this one when I've seen what our guys can accomplish.
You can't make a rational comparison based on one player who was a rookie with a limited off season to prepare and a guy who has yet to take a snap.
After about 2 more seasons you will have enough information to give an objective opinion.
Right now it's just pure speculation.
If you originally thought getting 2 first round picks for Ramsey was a good deal then we are ahead of the Rams. If you originally thought getting 2 first round picks for Ramsey wasn't a good deal then the Rams are ahead of us.
There hasn't been enough time to see enough from our picks to change that original opinion one way or the other.
I think honestly we will look back on it and feel like it was an OK deal for both sides. While likely the draft picks will never live up to be what Ramsey was, they may still provide solid value for us for years to come. Additionally, getting Lawrence makes it all worth it. The Rams had an active window and wanted to pursue a Super Bowl victory, and it looks like Ramsey can still help them do that.

I understand why we traded him, obviously. But if he wasn't disgruntled and wasn't acting like a clown. Are we going to pretend having the absolute best CB in football is WORSE than 2 first round picks? Fowler/Fournette/Bryan/Chaison/Henderson.
I'd say we could have traded all 5 of those first for him, and the outcome would be better for us. Also, if we did trade our next 2 first round picks for him they are either late first rounders, or early first rounders and if they were early.. we probably missed on QB.
He was faking an injury and refusing to play. He had absolutely no value to this team. We essentially got something for nothing.
We used the 4th rounder they gave us to go get Jordan Smith so I consider that part of the equation.
