I do see the irony of a poster with the name ‘CTEisReal’ and then claiming tannehill is better than Mahomes. I mean if you think that than yeah I would say brain injury might have happened to you.

But he didn't say that did he?  He said he's been a lot better than OK, which he has.  He said his numbers are better than Mahomes, which they are.  I don't think any rational fan would argue that Tannehill is better than Mahomes.

What stat are you tack homers cherry picking to arrive at this "better numbers than Mahomes" thing?

2020 - Patrick Mahomes II - 66.3% comp  - 4740 yds  - 38 TDs  - 6 INT

2020  - Ryan Tannehill -  65.5% comp  -  3819 yds  - 33 TDs  -  7  INT

Those are great numbers from Tannehill, especially given his work in Miami, but they aren't better than Mahomes.

We needed someone to complement AJ Brown, and with the uncertainty of how Reynolds will play, this did the trick.  There was a lot of noise on Twitter after the signing like "well, Tannehill is still the QB".  I don't understand the disrespect.  He wasn't great in Miami, but he's easily been a top 10 QB the past 2 years.  I don't think he's super elite, but his numbers last year were actually better than Mahomes.

Tannehill is a game manager at best that relies on Henry to keep defenses honest... which he does - he has single and sometimes zero coverage on most of his throws.

Mahomes is a game BREAKER.

Please don't conflate the two.

Tanne has been a top QB the last 2 years with the Titans.

Tannehill re did his deal to free up 18 million so now the reports are TN is going after Melvin Ingram to rotate in as a swing DE.  They are swinging for the fences now.  They are gonna be nasty if they pull this off with Dupree and Autry already added to the DL.  They upgraded their secondary with Farley, Jack Rabbitt and Fulton.  Fulton missed his entire rookie year with injury I think.  They also drafted Molden CB/S in the third who I thought was a steal.

I’m curious to see how consistent Tannehill may or may not be, and whether that’s enough to really utilize their receivers.

They are poised to compete with the colts for the division this year if they stay healthy, but their window may be relatively short. Interested to see it all play out.

CLOTS have no secondary to compete with TN 10 personnel right now.  In fact no one they face on their schedule does if you look at it.

What is the big deal arguing about numbers and stats?  The fact of the matter is Tannehill has put up some decent numbers and is way better than what they had before.  Is Mariotta even in the NFL anymore?
Last 24 games:

QBR: Tannehill 114 and Mahomes 105.9
Passing Yards: Tannehill 6,080 and Mahomes 6,983
Total TD: Tannehill 61 and Mahomes 56
INT: Tannehill 10 and Mahomes 10
Comp%: Tannehill 67.7% and Mahomes 66.4%

So very comparable with the exception of total passing yards, but that's no real surprise given how much the Titans run Henry and the lack of a real rushing threat from KC. And it's not cherry picking...it's the entire time Tannehill has been the QB.

The only time it's brought up is in response to someone who says Tannehill is just sort of meh.  No one thinks he's better or really in the same league as Mahomes (not sure anyone is), but the fact that Tannehill has put up similar numbers to Mahomes during his tenure as starting QB in Tennessee tells you he's better than "just OK".

The variables are so different between teams, schedules and circumstances that one player's stats don't really mean much compared to another player's stats.

Stats aren't a perfect measurement, but they are an indicator of how well (or poorly) a player is performing.  The comparison was more of an indicator that Tannehill isn't some bottom tier QB.  He's actually performed quite well.  Forget the comparison then...a 114 QBR, over 6,000 yards, 61 TD, 10 INT, and a 67.7% completion percentage over a 24 game period is not " just OK"...it's pretty [BLEEP] good.

When I see " Player x has better numbers than player z"  5 times in a thread, I tend to go confirm, especially if it sounds a little wacky.

So basically we've got some Tannehill advocates leaving out a string of games in 2019 in order to manipulate it to look like Tannehill threw  a whopping 1.3% more completions and 4 more TDs.

Which - you know - doesn't mean [BLEEP] and is a clear manipulation.

Tack trolls would be better off to just say - "go compare his numbers to Mahomes, they're eerily similar in some categories."

The stats I provided were for all 24 games he has started for the Titans.  Not sure which "string of games" you're referring to.  And yes some of his numbers are better than Mahomes...more TDs, better completion percentage, and better QBR.  And no, I don't think he's a better QB than Mahomes, but you have to admit it's pretty impressive to put up numbers similar to Mahomes given that KC throws the ball 62% of the time compared to TN throwing it just under 50% of the time.

You have to leave out some of Mahomes games in order to arrive at your "24."  Which ones are you leaving out ? And how did the omitted games affect Mahomes' season stats and percentages?  Is this not obvious?

It's an imprecise way of comparing their season production.

He's played 28 games as a tack, right? 26 starts, no? What are we omitting there as well?
What a strange thread.

I will say that I always thought Tannehill was underrated in Miami, but he's not even close to Mahomes. Watching the two play you can see the difference in quality between what they are doing. Tannehill has done an incredible job of riding the wave that Henry has created. I also think AJ Brown is a top ten WR, so Tannehill has a good team around him. Still, when I watch him play I see a guy playing within a running back centered offense that's making a lot easy for him. I have no doubt if Henry goes down for an extended period or had a string of bad games we'll see Tannehill look middle of the road, which is what I think he is, a decent but not great starting QB in a great situation. When I watch Mahomes play I see a guy making things work for his offense and frequently making the great throws that Tannehill couldn't make to make a QB-centric offense work.
LOL.  I know Jaguars fans don't want to admit it, but the Tacks have a legitimate QB (unfortunately).  Tannehill may not be another "Tom Brady", "Patrick Mahomes" or a "Peyton Manning", but he's good enough to win with what they have.

Teams don't need a "superstar QB" to be successful.  The tacks are doing it right.  Great running game along with a serviceable QB that doesn't make mistakes.  Because of the great running game it inflates the "serviceable QB's" numbers.

I don't think that there is a real comparison between QB's based on the stats.  The question to think about is which one will last longer?  Here's a bit of a hint.  What happened to Brunell after he injured his knee?  Was he the same?  The real comparison should be to Peyton Manning.

This was from late December, so maybe it was 24 games at that point and was before the final 2 regular season games last year.  Definitely not trying to manipulate any numbers or whatever.  I was as surprised as anyone when I saw the numbers.

I know the off-season is the time for people to pump themselves up, but did anyone watch Tannehill in the playoffs last year? The Ravens stopped Henry and Tannehill had nothing for them, and the Titans scored a whopping 13 points in a home playoffs game.

I'm not sure how long it takes for the wheels to fall off of Henry, but they will sooner or later and at that point the Titans will realize how badly they overpaid for Tannehill.
