Today, July 15, is the deadline to sign franchise tagged players to long term deals, and according to reports, Cam Robinson will not be signed to a long term deal, but instead will play out the year on the franchise tag.

My guess is he thought he was worth more than he really is. Honestly he could be replaced fairly easy.

My guess is we have a guy named Walker Little ready to replace him.

If he has a good season, he will get a fairly big contract next off season. It just won't be in Jacksonville.

My guess is that the team had no interest in signing him to a long term deal that starts with Franchise tag level salary. Cam REALLY needs to play better than he has in order to earn a big money. And unless he plays a LOT better than he has in his career so far, he's likely to walk as a free agent after this season with Little in the wings. That's how I would be approaching things if I were in Meyer's/Baalke's shoes.

My guess is the team didn't want to go into the darft with Bartch or Richardson as our best LT option.
All this means is that if he plays well this year and we want to keep him around, we'll be bidding against other team's offers instead of bidding against Cam's opinion of what he can get in FA.
Was there report that we made and offer that he refused? Otherwise I can't see how you came to your conclusion.
Is this supposed to be surprising?

I would have been more shocked had we signed him to a long term deal.

This is a good situation for the Front Office. Cam is under a lot of pressure to perform well this season, with a rookie gunning for his job and a potential big payday awaiting him. I like the idea of other teams setting the market for him. His ceiling until proven otherwise is average at best. We certainly know his floor is turnstile level.

I don't think that is the case. Otherwise, he'd be holding out like LaVeon Bell and others do when they want a long term deal.
I think Cam is quite happy playing for $14M this season. I believe he earned $7M in total during his initial 4 years under this rookie contract.

I came to that conclusion based on how other players from his time here have acted during their second contract. As a random forum poster and not someone who is part of the media I'm allowed to draw my conclusions much like you did with your post as I've not seen any reports stating what you said.

Actually, that is not the case. One must have a minimum of 2,500 posts on this board prior to drawing their own conclusions. It's in the Agreement terms that you sign when registering here.
They could still sign him for a long term deal next year if they want.

Cam signed the franchise tender fairly quickly, and he should feel fortunate that he's being well-paid for the upcoming season considering his less than stellar play so far in his career.
He was great his rookie year, the 2017 playoff season he was very solid protecting Bortles blindside, then the ACL tear the next year and the next year and a half he got right and back up to speed post injury. I think he'd be a pro-bowl RT but I'd rather have Little or another high draft pick man the blindside for Lawrence going forward.
The moment I soured a bit on Robinson was when he was supposedly "Physically unable to Perform" but in a locker room IG video he's seen dancing on top of a chair to some music, and then a few clips later him and a few other players stomping on the Jaguars logo of the locker room floor. I understand that Coughlin was a dictator and unusually harsh but that behavior was a really bad look imho.

go back and read the link, my supposition is straight from Urbz' mouth [empahsis mine]:
Quote:“We feel that the way this free agency is moving, is that left tackle position—as always—but even more now this year from hearing from the guys who've been in an NFL, this is a tough year for that left tackle position, and we feel just what's out there, and with coaching, culture and development, Cam, Cam has a lot of talent," Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer said in March when the Jaguars franchise-tagged Robinson.
That's a whole lot different from alleging that Cam didn't get a deal because he pulled an Ngakoue.

I walk away thinking.... can Urban put together a sentence that makes sense that his publicist didn't release for him?
If he plays good and we want to resign or to a bigger deal next year we can. We could tag him again next year as well if we wanted to

Complete revisionist history. He was very bad as a rookie, top 5 in pressures and penalties, and we all remember James Harrison completely destroying him in the playoffs.

That sentence made perfect sense.
