Obviously go back into a nickel or dime package for passing downs, but this should be our base.

But hell this team is so bad maybe the league will pass a rule that we can play with an extra guy or two to be a little more competitive.

You could drop Skuta and nobody would notice

2-4-5 would fix this defense
Line: Fowler/Malik/Marks/Yannick
Lb: Telvin/Jack
CB: Prince/Ramsey/House
S: Gipson/Cyprien
This should be the base. You have the DT talent to rotate Jackson, Marks, Odrick and Miller. The Lbs can rotate with Poz and Skuta but Skuta can play some DE and roatate with Fowler or Yannick. You can get more LBs on the field and play to your team strengths.

Lol I mean honestly I think the Jags should hand it over to the MB. It couldn't be any worse. The tag line could be "hey got any ideas? We've tried them all for 7 years and we still suck"

Quote:That would be a 4-2-5 and if that was the base, it would get eaten alive in the run game.Agreed. It would be the preferred formation on passing downs... But why not go 4-3 with jack taking skuta's position. Just stop with the otto/leo nonsense.
Just don't understand why this has to be so complicated

I so wish we could switch defenses.
We got too much talent.

Quote:That would be a 4-2-5 and if that was the base, it would get eaten alive in the run game.If you need more beef you can play Odrick as a big End. You can sub Miller in and use Fowler and Skuta if the run is hashing you but still have rush out there. Now I concede that you would give up some run plays but the overall effect would be positive. You can run blitz on early downs. The fact that your best players are all on the field my nullify this as well.
Now if the other team is running an I formation or 3 TE set, then of course match up hwith heavier but on average you are playing this set 70% of the game. This is a fanlike set with the talent we have against the majority of the league.
I'm looking at the talent and trying to get our best guys on the field.

Pull Poz when needed in obvious passing situations and add Colvin/House. There are a lot of variations that could be done with that.

When the the head coach has such a pathetic win-loss record and year after year the fans patiently wait for the "rebuild" to show results, listening to the MB can't be any worse. It's not like we couldn't get blown out by the Chargers anyway.

A 3-4 with
DL: Odrick/Miller/Jackson
Lb: Folwer/Jack/Telvin/Yannick
DB: Ramsey/Gipson/Cyprein/Prince
Would be sick too.
The point is we have a bunch of talent and we aren't using it correctly.

I'd like to see that as the nickel with a different SS.

Just stop with the otto/leo nonsense.People make way more out of the OTTO/LEO names, then there really needs to be honestly. They're just catchy names for a position. Much like the Buck, or Jack, or Elephant etc etc. They're just names for the most part.
Just don't understand why this has to be so complicated
At the end of the day, the positions are what they are, no matter what you want to call them. Our LEO position for example, is simply a weak side DE, who uses the Wide 9 principles.
Our Defense is very similar and basically a hybrid 3-4. We have the personnel to play a 3 man DL, but what would be our Passing Rushing OLB in a typical 3-4 scheme. We have them lined up wide on the weak side, with his hand in the dirt, on a 4 man DL.
This entire scheme is based on constant pressure with just the front 4 on the DL. It lets the other 7 guys drop back into coverage, with the hope the DL will get home consistently in 1-3 seconds.
Since they rarely blitz, if the front 4 doesn't get any pressure, well nothing more really needs to be said because we all have seen the out come. The back 7 defenders slowly get shredded all the way down the field.
