He's seriously been awful the past couple seasons. Fair, awful may be been a bit of an overstatement, at least for his 2019 season. Him making the Pro Bowl isn't some sort of validation of his play, though. Undeserving players routinely make the Pro Bowl, and he was a high profile Cowboy with a good story, a big new contract and had high level play the previous two seasons. He still hasn't been good the past season+.
Honestly couldn't care less what Get Up has to say, right now he's just a highly paid player that's regressed a lot who was being outplayed by 4 other LBers. The Cowboys could have sat him on the bench and maybe recouped some value for the same result, but they just released him outright. Even if Get Up is right that there's something no one is privy to at this point, there's no reason to pursue him then. No need to add another mediocre player with baggage.

Yeah, just look at the above post by Senor Fantastico. Even if you want to say he'd be our best LB, that's just an indictment on our LBers and not a positive for Smith. I'd still probably say Jack is better, but it's all bad and help isn't on the way.
I wouldn’t touch Smith. Something is wrong with this guy and he loves to go opposite of where the runner goes.

he was a healthy scratch the last game, and getting sent packing by two teams already this season doesn't bode well for his prospects.
Something is going on there, and I don't want any part of it.
