The speed Ruggs was going at in the area where the crash happened is/should be huge in this case. There's driving intoxicated and then there's driving like a complete dumb [BLEEP] while intoxicated.
Those speeds are ridiculous for even a freeway and it's down right nuts for where the crash happened. I read that the speed limit is 45 MPH in the area where the crash happened. The crash happened near an intersection. There's absolutely no reason dude should have been going 150+ MPH on those streets.
The NFL was different too. You make the shield look bad they come down harder.

Agreed. Even if he was sober as a judge, killing someone driving 156 mph is in and of itself grounds for some sort of jail time. Just shouldn't happen ever on a public street. Fly to Germany and drive the Autobahn if you're that addicted to speed.

Cynical side of me thinks that if he gets out of jail while still young enough to play in the NFL, some team will sign him. There are no morals in the NFL as long as someone can help you win.

What i found sad was ESPN coverage of this on NFL Live the day after. No mention of how irresponsible and criminal this act was; it was all about how it was such a tragedy that Riggs didnt avail himself to the many resources available to transport him home, along with moaning about how the NFL should educate thier players better to avoid situations like these. Discussion of personal responsiblity was minimzed or totally absent. All about the tragedy of a rich young man getting paid millions to play a kids game just thowing it all away, little said about the woman other than the obligatory 'thoughts and prayers go out to the family'. Clearly on the side of the perp here and pretty disappointing but not suprizing.
As I said, I think he gets the minimum and is back in the League in a few years. Maybe he does more time, but I kinda doubt it, the laws are just different for those people.
According to ESPN, he is now facing 2 more felony charges as well as a gun possession charge.
