Not our fault, people were calling a Von Miller clon and *(&^. He is going to have 15+ sacks, just ask Hero of the Day or Jagfanatic24

This place is insane when it comes to this type of stuff.

We haven't had a pass rusher since brackens

Whats your point?

Our edge rushers played their first game today. Not sure what youre expecting. I wanted to see more pass rush but people are ready to call Fowler a bust basically and its only Week 1. Its just insane.
Quote:Its amazing how he was earning the highest praise imaginable a few weeks ago to his non-existence in games now. GB got away with some MAJOR holding but I expected some decent pressure by him. I specifically watched him on most plays and his moves are sluggish - eerily similar to Andre Branch and I hope that this is not the norm

Ultimately, I will give Fowler the benefit of the doubt with him coming off the injury - and this practically being his first NFL game.

Malik had a couple plays where he caused pressure up the middle, but not nearly enough. Lets hope he can earn his $90 million dollar contract in the coming games...

I understand reading comprehension may not be the strong suit for some folks so I will help you out and bold out what I said.

I'm expecting them to, "do their job"
If Fowler doesn't start pressuring the QB by week 4 or 5, count me as part of the worried crowd.

Except for the fact im not saying YOU did...im saying people are. Look through threads and what Jags fans are saying on twitter.

And im not? He showed up in the run game and i notices a couple times where he got some pressure.

Just saying its week 1 and was his very first nfl game. Khalil Mack had a grand total of 4 sacks in his rookie year...
Quote:Leonard Williams 2.5 sacks today

Fowler 0

:woot:
Exactly. Caldwell out thought himself once again and didn't simply take the best player. Fowler isn't nowhere near a top five player.

The earlier the draft pick, the higher the expectations, regardless of position.  That's just the way it is.
Quote:This thread is breaking the new rule the DragonFurry just made up.

nooooooo! he didn't just make it up.. remember? it states REMINDER. lol smh
Flower played fine for his first game, he had a few pressures and 3 tackles

Malik Jackson on the other hand has to be better

Quote:I don't have a good feeling about Fowler at all.  The coaches preferred to start Ngakoue ahead of him, a third round rookie.
Ngakoue did not start over Fowler, I dont know where your getting this crap from, Fowler started and made the first tackle on defense

The circle of life on the Jags MB:

Jags draft pass rusher

Expectations are for 1st Team All-NFL sack numbers

Pass rusher struggles in his rookie year

1/2 of the message board posters start declaring pass rusher a bust, other 1/2 points out how rare it is for a rookie pass-rusher to succeed (using the Michael Strahan example every single time)

See some improvements in pass rusher in sophomore year

Assume this is pass rusher taking the next step and getting giddy

Pass rusher winds up busting after all and the process repeats itself.

It never fails to amuse me how everytime this team drafts a pass rusher the expectations placed on him are of immediacy, and then when that doesn't happen, we're always told wait until year 2 at least. You'd think with how many time we've gone through this cycle we'd have learned to taper our expectations by now.

I'm not worried about Fowler. It's, for all intents and purposes, his rookie year. I expect him to struggle. Next year's when I'll start getting really worried. Even Groves and Branch improved in their 2nd years.
No reason to expect first round player in the to 10 to perform well just because you give him a gajillion dollars. No reason to expect a new head coach in his 4th year to perform well either. Give them time.

If not now, when?

Is it possible that the scheme doesn't play well to the players we have? I just feel like this defense just isn't being utilized to their full abilities in this Seattle defence.

I've said this for the past couple of years. The reason Seattles defense works is because of Kam and Thomas. We don't have a Kam. We need to get back to basics or just switch to a 3-4.

This and we play soft coverage most of the time… Seattle's corners are pressed up the more times than they are not - disrupting the receivers route and timing.

Rodgers will always pick apart our defense, especially when we play with soft coverage. But to be fair, Rodgers would probably pick any defense apart regardless of how tight the coverage was.

I'm just pleased with how we kept him under 200 yards because we should have won this game - but we all know why our Jags lost. Let's hope our remaining games are unimpeded by the officials.

He's still trash.
