(05-19-2022, 10:08 AM)MyBloodIsTeal Wrote: [ -> ]Just read an article on NFL. Com that Walker is being coached in the outside linebacker position as his primary role for now.  It says this is to help in better drop back into coverage on passing plays.  Maybe in the future they will work on his premier talent of rushing the QB at the DE position.

Freaking Jags it never fails.

This is not a bad thing.

They are starting him out learning the edge rusher position opposite Josh Allen. He should be able to have immediate impact there. It's not about what he'll do dropping in coverage. It's what he'll do rushing the passer from the edge. They just have to make sure he's coached up on dropping into coverage from that position since it's part of playing OLB/edge in a 3-4 defense.

When he's shown he has the fundamentals down at this spot they can figure out if he's ready to start learning the 3-4 DE spot in this scheme.  Could happen in August, could happen around the bye week, could happen next offseason. We'll see.

Regardless - putting a guy with his size, length and athleticism opposite Josh Allen is going to change the way some offenses think about protecting their QB when they face the Jags. This is good.
My guess is they're going to use him like the Cowboys use Micah Parsons. All over the field.

I think they will move him around, but I think they are wisely not in a hurry about using him that way.
Personally - I anticipate him learning the first spot quickly and being ready to take on more this year - opposed to being stuck at one spot the entire season.

He should pick up things quickly once he gets a good grasp of the terminology. Georgia did not run a simple defense. It was very complex defense for any team, not just college teams
Do we have the return of Sacksonville ?
So wait we are all stocked on the pic now?

Do any of us have a choice but to root for him now?

Hopefully. This defense is younger than that 2017 one though.

LOL

That guy doesn't like the Jags apparently.

He definitely doesn't like the Walker pick. He ignores that he played multiple positions in college when blasting us for making him "change positions" to be an edge/OLB.

When diminishing Lloyd's impact he calls the Oluokun contract "mammoth." Ummm, it's a 3 year deal with an out after 2 years!

I mean like at least 3/4 of Sports talking heads don't understand contracts and salary caps.

But he starts with this:

Micah Parsons did something unprecedented as a rookie. He was forced to play as nearly a full-time edge rusher after simply moonlighting there in college -- and flashing in that gig -- and then ran away with the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. He's a freaky athletic outlier.

Doesn't that sound like Travon Walker?

On the other hand, he did give us 2 of the top 10.  Walker at #10 and Lloyd at #9.

Yes, and yes.

I just found his analysis/justification suspect in general.

I'm glad we have two guys on the list even if I find the content below their names sketchy.
Not sure if there are any HGTV geeks here but Walker's hometown will be featured tonight on a show called Hometown Kickstart.

If you are expecting Travon to bring his 9.5 career sacks or 13 career tackles for loss from Georgia here, there is no way that can be duplicated.   Quite interesting that he only had 3.5 tackles for loss that we not QB sack related.

I can only hope for 4-6 sacks this year from Walker. Take a look at most all of the elite pass rusher's first year.  There may be an outlier here and there but for the most part that is where they land their rookie season.  I do believe his run defense will be a good add to this defense.
Walker Duval Ranger has a nice ring to it-WDR for short.
