And nobody expected us to be very good this season. If you did you were just fooling yourself.

They look exactly like the team many of us thought they would this year. A 6 or 7 win team who is competitive and fights till the very end.

They haven't looked like a 6 or 7 win team lol
Another high draft pick coming.

Yes they have. You just set your expectations way too high as usual. After all you thought they'd be a playoff team right out of the gate.
I bet $200 for the Jags to win the SB this year.

I like what I see in the team and even if they don't make the playoffs I feel good about their future.

Again, $200 to WIN the SB. My optimism has taken a hit the past two weeks, but this team is not bad. The fricken Bengals were in the SB last season.

Anything is possible.

To be fair, the Jags set their own expectations high. They beat two decent teams with a combined score 62-10, then took the only undefeated team down to the wire. There’s no excuse to then drop two in a row to the arguably worst team in the league, then to a team they shutout only three weeks ago

That's the NFL and a young team trying to find their way.

clots not Colts.
tacks not Titans.
tinhorns not Texans.

Get it right. Get a grip. Get it together. Still plenty of football left to win six to seven games. Which is what they're capable of and is what most level headed fans considered reasonable.

They are not winning 6-7 games with this version of defense.

They had a solid D last week, terrible this week.  Offense below average last week, above average this week.  at some point, I supposed they will both play well at the same time and win, but I don't see that happening 4 more times this year.

Said in another thread, but we were vastly different D with Foley in the lineup.

When it comes time for him to negotiate a new deal, he can slap the last 3 games' defensive footage on the table and say 'nuff said.

I'll remain optimistic. You all can keep being little Debbies. I don't care.

Progress is pain. Good things will come.

What if we are close in the rest of our games and some even only lose by 1 point but don't win anymore, is that still progress?

Short answer, it depends.

If we have to rely on 3rd string RB to get 61-yd TD each week to keep things close, we're probably more lucky than good. If the D is getting tons of turnovers and points off them, while the QB can't get out of his own way, absotively not.

Comparing how Trevor has done the past two weeks compared to Philly? Very much so. But, if Trev turns the corner, but the D falls apart, we've still got building to do.

You gotta look beyond stat sheets and final scores to see the big picture. Your eyes will tell you when you see progress. Your head will understand when it's time to panic or pack it up.

I guess that counts as the long answer.

So if we are close in the rest are games but don't win any that's progress?

If Trevor throws 3 picks against the tinhorns, the run game combines for 57 yards and we get a lucky pick 6 in the last minute to beat the tinhorns 10-3, would that be progress? We got the glorious win, right?

this game is fun stupid

I appreciate Eric's optimism but right now I see us in the same old snake bitten Jaguars pit as always. Lots of promise to start the season and then we just watch the slow-motion train wreck that is always our season. As Yogi said, it's deja vu all over again.

However, given that we have better coaches and players we know can make plays, I'll keep a larger reserve of hope than usual, but my expectations remain low.

Train wreck? C'mon man, we're not even close to a train wreck this season. You know what a train wreck looks like and this ain't it. These games are good, hard fought and go down to the wire. We're losing in the last 2 minutes instead of the first 2 like last year.

Seriously, 10+ minutes drive in the fourth, what the heck more do you want from that side of the ball? Not Trevor, Travis, or Zay's fault that the D let Matt Ryan throw like it was 2016 again.

Well, if that's the case we should try less and get back to losing by 31. At least your Sundays were freed up, right?

It ain't close to the same, except on the sport page W-L standings, and anyone who thought this season was about that fooled themselves.

The people we need to see getting better got better. The ones that farted away the game for us likely aren't here next season.

....look for common denominators.

62-10, empty injury reports

Foley hurt in Philly
Bartch hurt in Hou
Zay out in Philly
MJJ out in Indy

....remember what we said in preseason? Starters good, depth miserable? Guess what's starting to happen.
